Pitches do not come from that 45 degree angle either. Front toss is okay. Oh sorry, in this video you are just playing catch it looks like.

Can you give me some advice as a parent. This is my sons 3rd year in coach pitch and i still struggle with how to tell him to hit the coach's rainbow style pitches. He almost needs to take on a slowpitch softball style swing to be successful in his age group in games. Its 2 completely different swing mechanics compared to fastpich. I appreciate it.

Good stuff coach? Please tell me the batters box/home plate area of that park has been addressed? Holy smokies that is the most hazardous dish I have ever seen, and I've coached and played on some doozies.

So the way I see it is: If you throw from a knee then you have to throw it up and arc it to the plate, which puts the ball to the same height it would be if you were standing and pitching. The will cause the little kid to have to track the ball through two movements, up and down, instead of a steady drop from pitching on your feet. The only way to pitch from a knee without elevating the ball would be to throw it harder. I’m coaching 6u, so how hard do I want to be throwing to 5 and 6 year olds? Does this make any sense or am I just wrong?

I’m skeptical. Not necessary for me to take a knee pitching to my 8u team, as I’m only 5’8”, but even if I was a foot taller, my knees couldn’t handle it and I won’t be able to move in time when the balls are lined back at me.

GARBAGE! Shagging is VERY IMPORTANT for development as well! Seeing a hard hit ball come off the barrel and learning to instinctual react & developing an explosive first step to the balk is crucial for defensive development. I checked out once you said “parents in the outfield shagging” I don’t want parents ANYWHERE on my field. More than one way of coaching though. That’s my 2cents worth.
@jcarwash31
@jcarwash31 2 жыл бұрын
He has 4 players in the defense station doing exactly that, reacting to the batted balls. 4 players can't cover the entire field, so he has 2 parents shagging so the kids can get back to their defensive positions for the next live swing.

I play 13u Major League Baseball and some of these tips are great but your teaching people as a right handed firstbasemen and not a lefty (which most pros are) and your footing is a little off in my opinion for a lefty I like to have my heels on the edge of the bag where my feet are facing second and the second they throw the ball considering it’s going 60/70 mph I’ll then stretch out for it keeping only my toe on the bag making sure that I don’t get my foot stepped on, maybe next video make one on double plays?

May be a silly question, but would you recommend continuing to pitch like this when it comes actual game time? I'm not opposed to it, if my kids are hitting by any means.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you didn't use some super skilled players to make this video. Much more relatable for (especially new) non-elite travelball coaches. But I know that this stuff will turn these kids into elite players who will enjoy baseball more and more, the finest game in the world it is!

I appreciate his intensity and his passion for the game and for coaching the fundamentals. I've coached little league for 8 seasons and played my whole life; kids bring all kinds of bad habits or bad ideas of what real baseball must look like to the game. Thanks for the advice, Mark. I use your templates in practice and it has DRASTICALLY improved the quality of what these kids are learning. Keep up the good work.

He means dont stand in that position before it is thrown to you, because if it is overthrown u will have to move back more but to get in that position if it is thrown right in front of you and you need to reach forward to it. I hope that made sense lol

It is not a force play on the Batter/Runner at 1B. From the MLB rules: A FORCE PLAY is a play in which a runner legally loses his right to occupy a base by reason of the batter becoming a runner.

Does the hitter change from batter to runner? When does the hitter lose his right to occupy the batter's box?
@JoeWashburnUTI
@JoeWashburnUTI Жыл бұрын
@@ju5tinp3 read the definition of a force play. The batter becoming a runner is what forces the runner(or runners). The force play is not about the method that an out can be achieved by the defense, it is about what a force play is.

What is the target when you are pitching to kids? Where should I be aiming the ball?

I’m coaching 3rd year 8U coach pitch. Couple of points The one thing that is absolutely true in your video is that it is absolutely the coaches responsibility to make sure the kids have a “hittable” ball pitched to them. The 1 knee throw works great at 30 feet. It does not work beyond 30 feet. Too much velocity from a knee at 40 feet is required to get the ball across the plate. Most athletic 8year old can’t catch up to 38-40mph at 40feet. I watched an ex MLB pitcher pitch like this to his team from 40feet in our league. They finished dead last. I found the 4seam grip helpful with the horseshoe out. This creates backspin rotation and the ball will stay up. If the ball has movement, it almost always move into the barrel when thrown like this. Most important thing is keeping the ball up with the velocity around 35mph.

ok if you are a youth coach don't do this as a player getting a rolled groundball isn't the same as getting it hit to you. There are funny hops different bounces and if you practice then you can be accurate and not every ball will be hit right to you.

At 5:37 , so true , too many kids standing around at too many practices causes baseball to lose kids to other sports , great point!

I do this same drill with a couple of exceptions. I put a net in front of the real first base and put a parent and a bucket there receiving throws from the infielders. This allows the infielders to do some game specific throws. If I have a catcher in the defensive group, I will have him get his gear on so they can receive the pitching. My biggest challenge is my other coaches understanding the concept of stations and rotating them. They like to try and squeeze a kid from one station to another station, like trying to move a defensive player into the hitting side. Frustrating.

LOL ...yes, some assistants dont see ow the entire routine fits together and veer off on their own program. As difficult as it can be, we Head Coaches need to stand firm on holding assistants to stick with the program. having an adult catching up at first base is addressed in the Defense video in this series of tree videos Defense group: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHrHXqainbOegs0 see 9:15-10:15

Damn awesome video man, first day of coach pitch practice for my son and I picked up pitching duties; I’ve played before and am coordinated enough and threw decent but this video rocked it. I was standing and I’m 6’6. I’ll definitely be on a knee tomorrow rocking this batting practice with the kids...

Thanks for this video - looking forward to trying it out this season with my 7-8 year olds! One question: what do you focus your eyes on when throwing the darts? Do you set up an actual target behind the plate? Or do you just aim at the empty space over the plate? I find it really easy to get distracted by the kid standing there because I also want to watch their swing for instructional purposes, so it's really easy to throw "at" them in order not to miss the swing. Advice?
