None of the businesses in Hallstadt are owned by Austrians. They all sold out. You want to see who owns Hallstadt, go to your local American Liquor Store. The Gasthaus's suck, the food is expensive garbage. I'm sorry, but thats the truth,.... As I experienced it.
@Bigboytravel

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, however the statement you're making is unfair. There a large number of businesses that are owned by Austrian. Yes some bus or drive in from Gosau, obertraun, and bad ischl, but others are from Hallstatt and are now raising their families there. I know some of them and will be back there in a month again. It's fine if you feel it was overrated in your opinion but to say none of the businesses are owned by Ausutrians is not correct. Are there other places in Austria that you would recommend where you had good experiences?

Hi, really appreciate your guide, save me a lot of time :D. Just one question. When I check the bus timetable on obb website, for Bad Ischl to Hallstatt Gosaumuhle, it suggests bus 541 instead of bus 542. Did they change the bus route or did I do anything wrong? A bit confused and would like your help on this. Thanks.
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 7 күн бұрын
Both are correct, but I'm curious why you put in Hallstatt Gosaumuhle as the destination when it is Hallstatt Lahn to get to the village? Gosaumuhle is usually a bus transfer point between Bad Ischl (north), Hallstatt (south) and Gosau (west)

Yep, exactly how I show it in the video. You can also walk the road up, which is low traffic, however there is no shoulder or path for pedestrians so we recommend the trail. You can also drive or taxi up but there isn't really a set (approved) place to park

Yes, just follow this guide in reverse starting from thr Hallstatt Lahn bus stop all the way to Salzburg. Current timetables for your specific days are available on the official Austrian website www.oebb.at/en.

It isn't possible to add it to a published video but I can make it more clear on the guide on our website soon. The bus stop is along the long east side of the palace ground facing the main road. You'll need to look for bus 840 listed for the correct bin

Unfortunately The Sound Of Music Meadow where Do Re Mi was filmed is currently inaccessible. I was there a month ago and you can't get up there. The footpath is closed. I've made a video about it. Very disappointing, considering next year is the 60th Anniversary of the release. There is also no sign as to when it will be open again.

The trail is fully open again. There had been construction on thr first segment since February and the an alternative path, however, the labeling/signs were not good. The project was completed as planned by the end of June and the trail just fully reopened again

How tall is he? It is only the first 200 meters or so where the ceiling is 6.5 feet or so at points and then the exit on the Miners train that would require hunching otherwise the caverns are wide open

Thanks for all the information. It is really very clear. I visited Hallstatt last year, but I was travelling using a rented car. It was a very disappointing trip, as I cannot find any parking space, as the town was really crowded, and I just had to continue my journey to Munich. I will use public transport for my next trip. Driving was really stressful, as I am from Malaysia, and drive on the opposite side of the road.

@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 4 ай бұрын
Hey Michell, thanks for watching. The valley is the Echerntal with the formal trail called the Echerntalweg. It is a valley the back from lake near the Lahn Bus Stop. The base of the lift up to the salt mine is at start of the valley. If you look at the interactive maps on the guides on our website for both the Salt Mine and the Free Walking Tour, the valley and rough trail are marked.

@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 5 ай бұрын
Bitte! You will pay from Salzburg to Hallstatt Lahn Hallstatt for a price based on the region so all the continuous bus connections required are covered by one ticket. This is why many people ride all the way through Hallstatt and right to the Dachstein visitor center for thr ice cave and 5 fingers since it doesn't cost any more
@marialu2722
@marialu2722 5 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I noticed on Google that the bus number eg 452 has now changed to 451. Then I looked back and this post was 5 years ago, so it makes sense. Hopefully still doable like this as I can only do a day trip to Hallstatt . So if I stay on the bus till the ice cave funicular station and then take same bus later to Lahn, my ticket is still valid? 🙏🏼
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 4 ай бұрын
You'll always want to double check your dates at www.oebb.at/en Yes the ticket will cover your transfers and to Hallstatt lahn then through to Dachstein in one continuous journey. Technically the short journey back Dachstein to Lahn isn't part of the original ticket since it is broken up from thr original journey but I've never had a driver check tickets for that segment. If it was an issue you can tell them Hallstatt Lahn and the fee is very small

We are planning to go from Salzburg to Hallstatt on a Sunday in March. Does anybody know what time the last bus/train is out of Hallstatt on a Sunday?
@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 5 ай бұрын
Hey Liam, it should be just a few minutes past 6pm from Hallstatt Lahn. You can peek at thr schedule on the official Asutrian website www.oebb.at/en now and then make sure to check again during your visit. March is usually very pleasant however there is always a slight chance of snow/ice altering the bus schedule. Expect it to feel firmly like spring time at the lake/village level

@Bigboytravel
@Bigboytravel 5 ай бұрын
I'd say that Hallstatt overall is kid friendly. If your kids and 6-7 year old or older they can do everything. Technically you can do the sale mine tour at 4 years old but 6 or 7 would be better. The 5 figures would be a challenge with a stroller unless if would hand a gravel trail (hard packed) but kids love to hike to the shark and other features up there even if they are too young for the ice cave. the lift and skywalk near the salt mine are good with a stroller. The Bathing island is fun with kids and has a small playground nearby. The boat rentals are fun also. We used a backpack carrier for our toddler last summer in addition to a stroller and switched between them

This place felt like a tourist trap, we had a reservation at 6 the lady made us sit at an empty table until another group finished because she said our reservation was at 7. We showed her the confirmation email for 6pm but it did not matter. She made us sit at an empty table for 38 min and she didn’t offer us drinks. We spent 68 euro here for 2 special dishes and three small 0.3L beers, everywhere else in Germany expect to spend 35 euro. Place is really over priced and servers are very rude. They also charge you for water and bread which is crazy.

Did you look at the guide on our website that goes with the video? It has a map of thr location and hike. We also have a SOM locations guide on our site which a more comprehensive map. In werfen it is a valley and the castle is slightly north of the village. The castle, village and meadow are all on the west side of the river and the higher mountains on the Eastside of the river have the ice cave. So if you are on the meadow looking east, you'll see the village below you and the castle slightly to your left.
