Thanks for sharing the rules explanation this week. In the Georgia vs. Mississippi State game, this past weekend an opposing team coach made forceable contact with a participating player, in front of a game official. Why did the game official did not call a violation on the play for unsportsmanship conduct?

In the clip of the Alabama South Carolina game regarding the momentum rule, the player started to take a knee in the endzone before changing his mind, shouldn't the play have been blown dead immediately when he started to take a knee?
@danielc51712 күн бұрын
Seems like a judgement call on whether he got far enough into the motion to really simulate taking a knee. For the QB slide they specify faking or simulating is a dead ball, so maybe to “simulate” it would need to appear to have happened, not just starting the motion.

Why was the ORE-OSU play not enforced as a foul for Illegal Participation rather than a substitution infraction? The 12th player did participate actively in the play and was not trying to leave the field. Does the NCAA not consider this to be IP?
@ncaaresources2 күн бұрын
In 2011 the NCAA playing rules were changed and the Illegal Participation rule was eliminated. Now if you participate with more than 11 players on the field, it is a substitution foul and a 5-yard penalty.

The NCAA's desire to drag out the full game longer and longer for commercials with the "2 minute timeout", and yet limit the length of something exciting like overtime is absurd. These videos are great none the less. They should play them at halftime at games.
@scott15648 күн бұрын
The rules committee is made up of coaches on a rotating basis, not the "NCAA." The committee is who decides the OT and other rules. In terms of commercials, that is based on TV contracts signed with (mostly) conferences.

The 2 minute timeout doesn't add an extra commercial, it just gives them a guaranteed spot to play one of the commercials they are contracted to play

There was 0 chance it was going to happen. They aren’t afraid to call out improper officiating but I don’t think this is the venue to speak on something so contentious. Why wasn’t Kentucky flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct in the bowl against Clemson for machine gun/pistol celebrations? While celebrating the kickoff return for touchdown #7 Barion Brown ‘reloaded’ and kept ‘firing.’ After his third td he makes the piston motion then sniffs his hands as if to inhale the gun smoke. The rule is explicit. Why were the infractions overlooked? Multiple times! Four instances, three by one player alone, that were crystal clear penalties!
