I’m surprised you are putting new fish straight into your pond without quarantining or at the very least giving them a strong PP dip! You’ll get away with it until the one occasion that you don’t!
@KoiBoyUKКүн бұрын
Hi, at the end of the video i say how i will be PP'ing the entire system soon so i didnt feel the need to do anything :)
@ces69Күн бұрын
@@KoiBoyUK A strong dip stops much getting into your pond, you couldn’t treat the pond at that level without damaging or killing the fish so is more effective and doesn’t cause harm to your filter bacteria, as even a “standard” dose will knock it back!
@simjakcal76963 күн бұрын
Get a mucus scrape done 1st before putting any treatments in, it may only be flukes so no need to nuke the pond with pp
@KoiBoyUK2 күн бұрын
@@simjakcal7696 thanks for the advice! PP will be the last resort because of the reasons you mention but I’m still scraping and still not finding anything, I’ll see how it goes

Don’t the seagulls try get at the fish???
@KoiBoyUK3 күн бұрын
Hi, there are plenty of seagulls round here but i've never had experience of them trying too. I know of some ponds where people claim seagulls have tried but they were extremely small goldfish, maybe that's something to do with it, thanks for watching :)

I find that if on a budget the Gordon low pvc pond liner is way better than the cheap woven stuff and still less than half the price of Firestone or other EPDM rubber pond liners. Yeah an in-ground rock-covered pond is very expensive and is probably why a lot of people go for a plain half raised square or rectangle as a box weld liner can be cheaper !
@chazkoi5 күн бұрын
Beautiful additions to the pond! On the cover, yea, get a massive polytunnel that covers the whole pond, including the decking area 😆 will keep the fish nice and toasty during winter and also give you somewhere to sit outside and enjoy the garden during the colder months 👍🏻👍🏻

Really like how you build the pond and the more natural look compared to the box aquariums that some have. They new ones look amazing 😁 curious if they are exepensive since they are jumbo tosai? I live on the other side of the canal (NL) and prices here go everywhere. I think that a lot of koi here are exepnsive and not even nice in pattern.

@@marc02061987 thanks Marc. There are some really nice box style ponds out there and they can be good at getting the conditions perfect for maximising koi growth but, they just aren’t for me!
