Personally, I think Sonic 4 is gonna be based on Sonic Heroes. We know Shadow survived the explosion in space, plus there have been rumors about a knuckles and shadow spin off. If that’s the case, then all the more reason why a sonic heroes movie is upon us. If we have Amy, then chances are that Cream is gonna be involved (she is Amy’s best friend after all and usually the one trying to keep her temper in check, plus if done right, they can make big the cat a beloved character). Rogue is a guaranteed pick for 2 reasons. 1. she’s a rival for knuckles because she wants the master emerald being a treasure hunter and all 2. She’s one of Shadow’s closest friends alongside Omega. Shadow’s alone at this point because team sonic thinks he’s dead, plus Gerald and Maria are gone. Having a fully assembled team dark would help shadow learn that he doesn’t have to be alone anymore (same thing knuckles learned near the end on Sonic 2), plus it’ll prevent him from reverting back to holding a grudge against all of humanity. Team Chaotix can also be introduced through knuckles because they did work together in their first appearance in knuckles and the chaotix, not to mention metal sonic was a boss in that game, so facing them early on would allow metal sonic to copy their data mid fight and set up his metal overlord form in the fourth sonic movie.

I personally think it makes more sense that silver actually went back in time to save eggman because finalised version of metal sonic was finished beforehand egg man’s henchman sends mass produced prototypes to get the quills of shadow sonic and his friends and the real metal sonic to find the chaos emeralds and maybe there will be a moment showing neo metal sonic being the future version of metal sonic who’s became sentient from the power of the emeralds and fuses with present metal sonic causing them to become metal overlord

I think instead of eggman creating metal sonic it was GUN in the future which created a terminator style dystopia ruled by Neo Metal Sonic and that the resistance leader might be Silver with Amy as his second in command

My theory is that Metal sonic and Amy came from the future Metal Sonic kill Sonic and Amy to protect Sonic because in the original terminator film the T-800 was sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor because she inspired a rebellion against Skynet maybe a similar idea is at play here and also hear me out outside of Metal Sonic and Amy coming from the future I don’t think Time Travel would play an active role in movie 4 but that Silver will be introduced in the post credits and movie 5 is when we can get our time travel centered plot with sonic and friends also I think they’re more likely to adapt Sonic Heores with some elements of Sonic CD like how Sonic 3 was an adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2 with elements from Shadow 05’

i mean if you look closely, the extra Metals that show up after the first one are actually not blue(difficult to tell because the entire scene has a dull blue light on it), so all of the Metals that Amy effortless beat were probably just inferior clones, with sonic 4 likely continuing from that scene with amy and sonic confronting the first metal(the real one), Neo metal is probably the main villain, just hoping that they have proper build up to neo metal since what makes the story of Neo Metal interesting is his relationship and obsession with Sonic from their long rivalry in the games, so it would feel weird if he pulls out neo despite barely knowing sonic at all since Neo was a product of Metal's hatred. Also it is likely Eggman got sent to the future but I also think Shadow got sent to the past, I'd think he might not show up at all during Sonic 4 to maybe set up a Sonic 06 plotline for Sonic 5 maybe. After all Shadow represents the past in 06 and Iblis is already canon to the movies

If it’s only CD, it be a huge downgrade From a Sonic Adventure 2 inspired movie. The next movie should honestly be a mix of CD and heroes. Complete the full or most of the OG cast and bring back the great threat that is Neo metal Sonic. And Sonic heroes is also pretty much a sequel to adventure 2 as well

My Theory is that Sonic 4 will simultaneously be an adaptation of Sonic CD, Sonic Heroes, and Sonic 06. And I guess Sonic 4.

It’ll probably be like what they did with Sonic 3. Sonic 3 was based of SA2 but they changed some scenes, a bit of Shadow’s origin (He was no longer created, he’s straight from space. Metal Sonic will probably be made by Agent Stone to avenge Eggman or someone new entirely) take away a few characters or add (Rouge and Amy weren’t here, and Shadow’s probably gonna be in Sonic 4) and then have Post Credit Cliffhanger, probably showing Rouge (If she isn’t in the movie) or the most obvious answer: Silver. Boom; Sonic 4

I think Robotnik can return simply because of the kind of explosion one powered by Chaos Energy the same energy that let Shadow teleport and create energy spears who knows what else it can do

6:10 the uk Sonic comic was the only piece of media to feature an army of Metal Sonics, with their leader being "Metallix". I think Metallix or the original Metal Sonic will be the main villain of the 4th movie, and Stone will probably be the one who created him with the intention to bring back Robotnik. Just an idea, but one thing I hope they cover is either Metal's Neo or Overlord forms.
