It was rabid. You can tell by the way the skunk kept going after the dog. It kept trying to bite the animal and would have gotten the dog rabid. No skunk will do that unless there's something seriously wrong with it (aka: rabies). Rabies drives animals to act unnaturally and get close to other animals to spread the disease. If he hadn't noticed a rabid skunk was in his dog's kennel, the dog could have gotten seriously sick and died, and could have bit a human. I don't like the fact that he kicked it, but if I had a rabid skunk coming for my dog, I would have done the same thing. It's especially evident that the animal has rabies when it tried to get up and keep going after them after it was kicked. Most skunks will stamp and turn around to spray when a human or dog gets that close.

Marshmallow Girl people keep dogs in kennels for a variety of reasons. That kennel looked like a decent size for a pug, as they don't roam around as much as other dogs due to health problems every member of the breed has. There is literally no chance of the pug getting out by climbing or jumping the fence, so the height isn't a problem, either. I don't like the fact that he kicked the skunk either, but at that point, I'm not sure what else he could have done. If he reached out for the dog and picked it up, he could have gotten bit. If he ran off and got his gun, the skunk would have kept biting at the pug and could seriously hurt it, since those dogs are not made for fighting. If he did get his gun and the skunk miraculously didn't hurt the dog, he could have accidentally shot his own dog while trying to defend it. If he had chased it off, it would have gone after someone else's pet or child and infected them with rabies.

I wish you would have gave that skunk a quick and merciful ending. That poor thing was suffering. I do hope your dog was/is ok. I will agree with having to save your dog but instead of grabbing your phone/cam, you should have grabbed something two-handed to end the skunk's life quickly.

the guy left his dog in that cage with the skunk for at least 2 minutes...I'm guessing it was more like 5. He wasn't interested in protecting his dog from being bitten. He wanted his 15 minutes of internet fame. Skunk soccer?? You can cleanly dispatch a skunk without being cruel. "Coming after me"?! The skunk had a broken leg and most likely caved in ribs. He was cruel to the skunk and the dog.
