Serbian hamburgers! Called PLJESKAVICA 😊 And Serbian grilled meat cevapi, raznjici, muckalica, then pecena jagnjetina, prasece pecenje, teletina ispod saca, uzicka prsuta, pirotska peglana kobasica, kosmajska prsuta, sremski kulen (petrovacki) etc. CEVAPI were invented in Serbia! Ajvar, kajmak, vurda, pirotski kackavalj, sarma, punjena paprika, srpska musaka, lepinja, proja, gibanica, porcini mushrooms strew id est vrganji, burek (burek with cheese, spicy minced meat, mushrooms, leafy greens, potatoes, nettle etc.)... then, desserts like slatke pite (sa jabukama, visnjama etc.), makovnjaca, srpska baklava sa orasima i suvim grozdjem, krempita, sampita, vanilice, tufahije, padobranci, bajadete, princes krofne, puslice, plazma torta, puslica torta sa malinama, grilijas torta, vasina torta, snenokle, tulumbe, reform torta, kesten pire sa slagom, orasnice, knedle sa sljivama etc.- all Serbian food, prepared and eaten in Serbia for centuries. There are historical and scientific evidences and sources to all that is of Serbian origin! Cevapi have been invented in Southern Serbia, and brought exclusively to Belgrade in 15th century. It is not originally Sarajevo food, though I am very glad that our brothers from Bosnia are eating Serbian food such as cevapi, because there are many ethnic Serbs living in Bosnia and in other Balkan countries (regardless of their religious denomination), not only in Serbia. Though, in Bosnia the meat is more charcoaled, to disguise the poor hygiene standards; I hope they would eventually improve hygiene in Bosnia, since too many people got sick after eating food in Bosnia (unfortunately, my godmother got stomach virus just the other day from bad food while she went to a business trip to Bosnia😨). Of course, some other countries eat grilled meat, too. Turkiye has kebab, which is great too, but it is different food, it is not the same recipe nor the same meat mixture as cevapi in Serbia. If you accidentally buy some cevapi in other areas of Balkan, with street nickname like sarajevaki or banjalucki, they are second rate, they cannot measure up to Serbian food, but they are widespread because they are much cheaper to make, and are poor in quality. While Serbian cevapi - Leskovacki, pljeskavica and grilled meat from Serbia is a league on its own, a de luxe food, since all of the ingredients for Serbian food is homegrown, the meat is hormone-free, and most important GMO is strictly prohibited by Serbian law! Also, Serbian fresh salads are pure heaven to eat 😋 Very healthy, nutritious, refreshing, tasty... pecena paprika sa belim lukom is a winner, pindjur, kiseli kupus, tursija, ljutenica, urnebes, tarator are all old Serbian recipes, and also most famous Serbian salad called Shopska salata; Shops or Torlaks were an ethnic Serbian tribe from the Kingdom of Serbia, which spanned to Bulgaria, therefore you might also find Serbian recipe Shopska salata eaten in Bulgaria - because ethnic Serbian tribe Shops lived on the territory of today's Bulgaria as well, not only in Central Serbia. PS. It is good to know that Serbia is famous for truffles! Real, natural truffles, from deep and rich Serbian forests, not cultivated artificial industrial truffles. So, if you want to buy a souvenir from Serbia, to take home, the best thing is to go to DAMAR store (Zetska street, downtown Belgrade, near Skadarlija the bohemian quarter; or you can just order online from their digital shop), most delicious food specialties made with Serbian truffles 😚 And from authentic Serbian desserts, a perfect souvenir is slatko, that is a sweet fruit preserves, usually comes in small glass jars (can be found in supermarkets, brandmakes such as Ukusi Moga Kraja) and there are many varieties - slatko od jagoda, slatko od visanja, slatko od malina, slatko od kupina, slatko od dunja, slatko od borovnica 😋
