I coached at the pee wee level and one year I didn't have the greatest talent, our opposition teams all had great talent. We went wing T and I used a color scheme for the buck sweep option. Black and blue were the runs, play action passes were pink or purple. Easiest ways to call in plays from the side lines. We had some success and were able to put up some points. I think if we ran a traditional offense, we would have struggled. I am a bug fan of play progression and the Wing T has it all in one tight package. Plus it can take evolve or morph to add spread tendencies if needed

And *ONLY* works if everyone doesn’t miss their blocking assignments. One whiff and it gets blown up. Also you must have hard working players. I’ve seen Buck fail miserably as the players were too lazy and stupid to pull it off.

I’ve found that 90% of the parents of receivers and QB’s greatly overestimate their kids’ abilities to make plays in a passing offense also.

Do you mind if I ask the state and school? Of course, just because an offense runs the wing t doesn't automatically mean they will be great, or even good, but I do believe that it has the potential to make a talented team a juggernaut. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Yep! When I was deciding on an offensive system to run as a head coach, I always thought back to what I hated to see when I was a linebacker. The spread? I loved seeing that because I could track the ball much easier. There weren't any confusing keybreakers to worry about.

The wing t does have spread formations, if you look at what gus malzahn did at auburn in 2011 most of that is wing t variations. Look up coach Dave bishop and coach Bob Christmas and you will see the possibilities.

I lean much more heavily towards the Wing T than a Spread/Air Raid. However I believe that you must always fit your system to your kids. Adjust accordingly and just play with the kids buying in

Are there any reasons that running backs do 2-point stand instead of 3-point?
@joblinboom9221
@joblinboom9221 Жыл бұрын
Better vision to read the line of scrimmage. Also, running backs are going to come up out of their stance as they approach the line of scrimmage anyway. The only players that need to be in a three point stance are those on the line of scrimmage. Same reason you would never have linebackers in a three point stance. In my opinion, the only reason fullbacks are still in the three-point is tradition.

Not a Wing-T Guy but we run the I-formation and are a downhill running team. If I had a dollar for every time a fan or another parent yelled down they have 10-11 in the Box I could retire from my Job and just coach football. The difference between a Designed Hole Run vs a Zone run is you only have to block and account for the people who will directly impact the designated hole. What i mean by that is If I am running iso against a 4-4 look all i need to account for are the playside DE playside Nose Playside Linebacker and the Overhang Backer. If the play is run properly and the back hits the hole if the Backside Linebacker or Safety are making the tackle it is for an 8 yard Gain. Also the OL dont have to sustain blocks as long because of the designated hole means the back can hit it full speed. Vs a Spread zone team which is asking a RB to make a read of OL who are also being asked to Overtake defenders which are two of the hardest things to do at the High school level consistently. Against a basic spread Zone option the defense can add one extra guy to the box off the backside to account for the QB and essentially negate that play from being successful. That doesnt even get to mention the passing game that comes from those hard play action fakes and the reactions it creates when you are running the ball successful as an offense that isnt a spread and shred style.
@madD8845
@madD8845 2 жыл бұрын
I see so many spread teams getting blown out because they don’t have the athletes to run spread. I know it’s popular but if you want to win and keep from getting blown out Wing t will do it for you.

@@joblinboom9221 thanks man. I appreciate it. Definitely think you handled this in a respectful and professional way. I'm less than impressed, honestly, with the video you're responding to. The absolute best teams, year in and year out, have a system. And they cater that system to their players talents. IMO the Wing-T teams I've seen have the best foundation to do so because they're not switching schemes every 4-5 years. They're adapting the scheme, slightly, to each year's group of players. And can replicate those adaptations 5 years later if need be, because they've done it before. Coach are you on Twitter?

@@joblinboom9221 Got you. I wanted to ask your thoughts on a scheme comparison vid I'm working on. Basically, comparing the sequence-based system of OZ/Stretch and PA Boot with Split Zone to the Wing-T. (Not the Formation, the system) Where you have similar backfield action, nearly identical, for 2 or 3 plays that complement each other. I'm working on a vid using film of 49er/Rams/Titans/Browns and comparing them in this simplistic way: OZ/Stretch as Bucksweep; PA Boot as Waggle; Split Zone as a hybrid of Trap (24/26) and Belly Cross-Block. Haven't finished it yet. Wanted to point out that there's really a lot more similarities between "modern concepts" and "old school" systems that are still being used far more than a lot of football fans realize. Forgive the long reply, it's a topic I feel passionate about but NFL fans are often very misinformed about how old certain concepts are.
@joblinboom9221
@joblinboom9221 2 жыл бұрын
@@all_22_films I think you've got a great idea there. There are a lot more similarities/overlap than people realize when looking at complimentary play packages and you've picked out some good examples. I don't watch as much NFL as you do, but I do watch quite a bit of NCAA and still today teams like Oklahoma (at least recently under Riley) ran a ton of packages with the counter trey which dates all the way back to Joe Gibbs and the Redskins of the 1980s. Just a few years back Gus Malzahn's Auburn team crushed Missouri in the SEC Championship running buck sweep for a million yards (only out of shotgun). What's old is new and what's new is old. People forget that teams ran shotugn (1930s single wing) before QBs took snaps under center (Chicago Bears under Halas).
