I bet for jackals and grunts, promotion into a certain rank is probably not just based on skill but how much of a particular armor set is available on hand a covenant ship. Like for some grunts (with the exceptions of maybe a heavy and deacons), it’s probably a matter of who can get the ultra armors first. That or their superiors are really keenly aware of every grunt’s abilities.

I really don't think Halo 3 would be too different if Halo 2 ended the way it did, the story would just continue with Chief helping Arbiter in the Covenant civil war and eventually rescuing Cortana from the Flood too, while Arby ends the game by becoming the new leader for the Elites

The Gravity Hammer in Halo 4 has such an oddball (no pun intended) feel to it in relation to the rest of the Covenant Armory, like no Covenant enemy in Halo 4 uses it and the places you can find it at are odd spots so to speak. It made me wonder for a time as to where the Brutes went after Halo 3, until of course Halo Wars 2 came out.

It's Best for me to skip "Halo 5" and just pretend it never happened, I'll use my own Head-Canon that "Halo: Infinite" canonically takes place directly after "Halo 4."

I used to love halo, but the steady decline of actual story has stopped me from supporting the franchise anymore. I'm bored of needing these big videos to save purchasing the miles of content between games just to know what has happened between titles. Not to say halo didn't have books in the early days, they did, but they were not critical to the core games story. Whilst its true that fans don't know what they want until its given to them, i think that 343 have squandered halo so badly that its now beyond saving. Only a complete reboot back to the human/covenant war will save it, there is nearly 30 years of untouched lore there ripe for the taking.

I though covenant weapons (and other objects) were numbered by order of cataloging. For example The plasma rifle is the Type 25 because it was the 25th covenant object/thing to be studied and categorised by ONI
