A couple tips for exploration: 1. Buy the time bombs. They will bypass the armor of those wall turrets and the laser canons. 2. Early on equip your pod weapons/gear, but ignore the treasures. Just go on combat runs to clear the enemy. Afterwards de-equip your pod gear and collect the treasures. This way you are less likely to lose the ship and the gear from burning fuel.

The Navigators is the planet map item, same as what you bought in the shop. Pro tip #1-- shops only appear before you land on even-numbered planets. Plan purchases accordingly, you can get better ship pods for 10k and 25k. Pro tip #2-- When you have those small wormholes in the corner, get close with the item then drop the item. Maneuver so the item is between you and the wormhole, then fly at it with shields down. The tractor beam grabs it and it'll be in front for a moment before gravity takes effect, enough time to "push it" into the wormhole and collect the prize.
