@@DavidMorley Thanks for the reply. No, my other older amps don't have line outs, But are you saying that the reverb effect can be slaved out of the Falcon from the Monitor Out and be used by the second amp?..Sorry I'm a bit illiterate with the jargon used to describe audio stuff. @@tonehome1 Hi there. Yes hard to explain! But no, I think you would need to use an Abbot and send the guitar directly into both amps. The Gibson would then be the reverb and the other amp the dry amp. So the reverb would not be on the other amp. Just the guitar going to both

I never realised this machine family has these RY30-like functions, very very cool. Thank you for an excellent video. I regret not toying more with the ones I've had (R5 and R8 mk1). Yamaha picked these ideas up and perhaps made them more obvious with the bend wheel. Sadly mint machines are hard to find but perhaps I'll stumble upon one again. Will make sure to use these functions if that ever happens. Of course Elektron machines offer even more flexibility these days but I love Roland gear. :-) Anyway...

Some more uses-I love the preamp in the Falcon and it is the best reverb, even beating my 65’ Reverberocket. It sounds great going through different circuits due to its unique sounding preamp and reverb. Great trem also. It allows you to play through two amps at once giving you the ability to shape a wide dynamic sound. I’ve yet to insert a pedal between two amps but that would be an interesting application, especially if it was a delay or phase. It’s such a fun amp.

Overall fascinating. You'll be curious to see what's inside that synth. 7 years ago were people still recording 8 tracks with that little tape? Does it reach 15 kHz? Honestly it's much more interesting to record improvisations and live performances only at several megahertz DSD 1 bit, because 32bit 384-768 kHz is just right for the crazy PCM limitation of the DAW. This digital slacker in the video still has good taste.

Excuse me, David, I understand, that this video is relatively old, but, anyway, I have a question for You: I see, that in the RAM slot of Your R8 Mk II there is an "Electronic" PCM card, which kind of surprises me. I thought, that tbe Mk II (which I own too) had all the samples of that PCM card, as well as those from the "Dance" card. Is that correct? It's hard to judge without having those cards, because in the R8 Mk II's manual and in the card's ones, that I've found on the net, the samples are named differently, IIRC. I may be mistaken though. Could You, please, clarify this point for me? Thank You in advance, and, please, excuse my English. Cheers!

Hi there. The samples are different in some cases and a few are missing. I recommend the MK2 for sure, but there are still sounds worth having on the card. But the Mk2 is much better than the R8 mk1 without cards. It also has more pattern memory which is small on the MK1

While the R8's pads are velocity sensitive, they don't feel that great IMO, they're kinda hard without much give in them. I feel like its almost like tapping on a totally hard surface. Wow I am blown away. I always loved the idea behind this. Little did they dream at the time that the music world would adopt this concept totally. Unfortunatly the developers go unsubg (pardon the pun). It remibds me a little of the AtariST but no lightpen. How much does Apple owe these guys for that development too. As Harrison said “It’s All Too Much” Lovely presentation sir. You are a great man. Why have the manufacturers taken this concept and run with it? @@DavidMorley I agree the RY30 sounds had a certain Yamahaness about them. It was an instantly recognisable sound, hard to describe. Maybe lacking in weight? Not thin, but toned down and polite. This though never stopped me grinding them up through overdrive, or pushing more gain on the desk. Having now retired from releasing records and being a musician, I still think that instead of say a modular, a great classic drum machine is a must, even if it’s the only thing left in one's collection.
