Nice tutorial. Thanks. One question remains for me. Do these instruments allow also for (horizontal) distance measurements? It is said that the guy with the Philadelphia rod chooses a good turning point to represent well the slope of the terrain, but what about the distance between instrument and rod? Should you just carry a good old long tape to measure distances? Am I asking too many questions? 😅 Thanks anyway for the video. It answers most of the questions regarding this process.

Really, really good vid!! My question is... why not scope out the layout by eye first and set up the dumpy level somewhere that can not only see all points but is also closer to all points, such as inside the grid, maybe at B/C 2/3 square?
