I recently read through Ecclesiastes. It's useful to perceive that Solomon is writing this to his son Rehoboam, who would follow as king. He even points out that he's aware that one cannot be sure of whether or not their heir will be wise or a fool. Sadly, Rehoboam didn't take his father's advice, and notably started his reign announcing: “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.” An important lesson to try as hard as you can to instill wisdom and morals to the next generation.

I really liked that analogy of food to God's Word. I never thought about the fact that everything I've eaten in the past helped keep me alive up to this moment, and every time I've been in God's Word in the past it helped to keep me spiritually alive.
