kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYe6gXuNitJnpsk The neck tenon on my new Selmer Supreme Tenor saxophone was defectively welded by the Selmer factory. The collar was improperly soldered and came completely loose. To have this repaired would damage the finish and result in severe cosmetic damage. Selmer has been aware of this defect since 10/24 and I’ve had zero response from them. No outreach; no apology; no concern for my ability to practice, rehearse, or perform. Update 11/7--Selmer is replacing the horn but it will take at least two weeks for the new horn to arrive. Still no apology for the inconvenience cased for a performing musician. Update 11/16--Still no replacement horn. Selmer has refused to expedite resolution and continues to seem unconcerned with their warranty responsibility.

Sax did not "invent" the "saxophone". In fact, his first demo instrument, which he presented at a French convention, was not the only instrument of its kind. That, and there were other versions of "reed ophicleides", the sound of some of which I prefer to this day. This is cheerleading, not an accurate historical account.

If enough clarinetists find this video, there's likely to be quite a bit of arguing in the comments! (Marcellus's Mozart "boring?" Oh boy...)

It seems to me that playing a saxophone is about more than the sound everyone hears. For me it’s about how it sounds to me and how makes it me feel; it’s what I play for and if that’s a good feeling then I’ll most likely play better as a result. I have an old sax that makes me feel good because I’m playing a bit of history. I also have a new sax that makes me feel good because it takes care of intonation and frees my mind up to think about how I’m playing. This guy likely sounds good on any sax, but I’ll bet there is just a subset of them that makes him feel good too. I’m not quite so cynical that a good player will take a contract purely based on the money - after all, you have to play it day in, day out…

Really interesting thoughts from a fantastic player. It's encouraging to know that he's so open-minded about what can constitute a "good" sound, and that he is influenced by musicians whom one wouldn't necessarily expect to hear a classical saxophonist talking about..

Fabulous Looking forward and Ian sure I shall be getting my students to look at it. Your clarinets are so beautifully made. I love the way you give great thought and design to all your products. I have been playing the Focus mouthpiece recently, which suits my playing at present God bless you all at Selmer’s. Bill. U

How do you know if this resin in the evolution clarinet is going to last? This resin will probably dissolve with solvents like acetone. I don't think this will work.

The depth of sound comes from the Instrument correct. The most important aspect of the mouthpiece in my opinion is intonation, intonation and intonation. I played on a well in tune clarinet but the mouthpiece I tried made the throat tones super flat.

9:34 I don't know about those places but in Greece, orchestra leaders have their preferred individuals predetermined to win the auditions however they play and auditions become just for typical reasons, believe It or not. That's the unfortunate truth. Nothing else counts really.

Thank you for your lovely playing and comments. I love to hear or hear about the players of the past. Last year I was able to purchase a pair of Recital clarinets which had belonged to Dame Thea King , thegreat British clarinettist My teacher as a boy had been the late James Joseph of The Northern Sinfonia. He in turn had been a pupil of Dame Thea. As you say it is important to remember those from the past. We have many influences in our lives and musical lives. Thank you for your wonderful playing and you have influenced me to get the music for the Ben Haim Quintet. Thank you God bless you Sir. Bill. Uk 🇺🇸🇮🇱🇬🇧
