Stylistically, I can see a few possible hints of inspiration there for Patrick McGoohan's sci-fi TV show 'The Prisoner'. Winston's silent cell-mate (whose character is coincidently named 'Prisoner', happens to be played by Kenneth Griffith, who appeared in a couple of episodes.

I interviewed Kenneth Griffith at his Islington home in about 2000, mainly about a documentary he'd made on the Boer War (he was an authority on that war, and a noted memorabilia collector). I'd have asked him about 1984 if I'd known I was going to write a book about Orwellian films a decade and a half later. I also visited Michael Ripper, who was in the same film, though his dementia was quite advanced at that stage and he died about a year later.

Peter Davison gave it his best shot but he was the wrong choice as the doctor. Colin Baker would have been a great follow up to Tom Baker's doctor had it been the right timing.

You are not fooling anyone, that was George Harrison's Third Dr audition tape from 1976 . . . I joke. The Quartermass monster would have amazed people at the time. I remember that playing on tv the first time, but in New Zealand so probably four or five years after it played in the UK. It was one of the things my mother talked about as "The most frightening thing I ever saw, your father used to make me watch them with him",

Its fascinating how even with modern science and tech we are still so enthralled by everything paranormal and mythological. I think it would be a pretty boring world if everything was explained and we had lost that childlike sense of wonder and mystery.

Fascinating subject the paranormal i must say i've never seen a dog man on the wild life programs 🤣. But i've seen to red eyes looking at me in the dark it must of been something the size of a bear but it looked at me and turned around and went the other way as i turned my torch on it. Did not see its body just the eyes as it was pitch black. That was in Hull. Also a good documentary to watch is wolf lands by Paul Sinclair.

People who grew up in the Cold War get the entire 'fin de siecle' mood of the 'plausible' late 1970s, early 1980s post-apocalyptic shows ('Threads', 'The Day After'). Millennials are completely overwhelmed by the subject - especially when the Hollywood/BBC scripts are suddenly executed for real, breaking the 4th Wall.
