as i'm french i'm not sure i understood evrything, could u resume this in a few words for me please ? i've seen the whole video but not sure about why u use exr what does it bring for you.
@IanLetarte9 күн бұрын
Sure! The main benefit of EXR that I've been appreciating is that It doesn't loose data to compression as easily as a .png for example. So I can transfer a sequence of images from one blender file to another without worrying about degrading the quality of the images.

another tip that is super common in the vfx industry that i never see mentioned by most blender users, is starting your frame range for shots at f1001 - this means you can also change your edit around by a few frames and it's not like absolutely terrible, especially if your temp edit is still not finished yet. there's a handful of videos on using the compositor workspace to get multipass working properly that you can find on youtube that also get you closer to the way that studios use EXRs for the last..few decades at least, lol. The old method of one image sequence for each pass is pretty antiquated at this point. AFAIK there's no way to disable the properties panel's 'output' with the compositor method though, so i usually make it a jpeg at lowest quality pathed to somewhere at the top of my renders dir and it just gets written over every time and i clean it up when i'm done with the project
@orcanimal13 күн бұрын
Same. EXRs offer so much leeway afterwards. Just wish someone would've told me I needed an EXR/linear gamma to Rec709 (or other color spaces) LUT to get correct colors in Davinci afterwards. Would've saved me a couple of days...
@IanLetarte12 күн бұрын
Yeah, I still have some issues with minor color shifts between my OG footage and imported exr sequences. I edit in blender's VSE though and don't really know how I would use LUTs in there. :/

11:20 to me, this doesn't look like digital stabilization is causing the bad track (although certainly possible!). This looks like your footage was shot at different frame rates. -taking another lookat your video I saw you were using an iPhone... which further makes me think that I might actually be right, because iPhones by default use this annoying variable framerate to safe storage space.

Any idea why in Blender 3.4.1, the key framing on the mask and tracker don't work in the Compositing workspace when they work perfectly in the Layout tab? My compositing nodes are set up exactly as yours are but it looks like I may have to add a keying node in the Compositing workspace or something? Still haven't figured it out. If you have any ideas I'd be super grateful.
@IanLetarteАй бұрын
The keying node is is designed for green screen so I don't think that would benefit you. I'm not entirely sure why keyframing the values isn't working for you. Maybe try right clicking on the value to add a keyframe?
@TurKlackАй бұрын
This is more or less something Is till wonder about. When I watch sculpt Videos many People add multiple objects, like Limgs and Body before they begin to sculpt. Are they linking them together like you have done? Or not?

Pretty nice tree. Also, sweet tips, thanks!
@Artem.Kak.Art.Ай бұрын
I use a different method, let me share: it’s based on Geometry Nodes, but it’s easy. Basically it’s like the wireframe modifier, but more flexible. You can use meshes or curves, if you use a mesh convert it into curve in Geo nodes, then convert the curve back into mesh use Curve circle profile. Basically that’s it. Then you can make it more interesting. There are a lot of YT guides on this topic
@holden2getherАй бұрын
Doing a video about pipes in Blender......Hmmmm I know! I'll make it while sitting up a tree!🤣🤣🤣 How does your brain put those two together Mr Letarte? Oh, and thanks for the tip.
@gillspeeАй бұрын
Why not just use curves and increase the radius then turn into mesh later?
@choo_choo_Ай бұрын
My biggest problem with the skin modifier is how much extra (useless) geometry it adds between the points, with no way to really specify how much you want. Most of the time, like a straight line, you don't actually need any extra geo between two points. Throwing a decimate modifier in the mix set to planar usually works well enough, though I do wish there was a straight up option to specify the amount of subdivisions between points. Maybe it's a simple problem Geo Nodes can solve. Definitely doesn't seem too hard, even with my limited knowledge of em. Also not too much of a fan of the intersections when using the skin modifier, since they're a bit mushy. Other than that, yeah, I've used this quite a bit for things like scaffolding radio towers, and power pylons. Just gotta make sure to throw that decimate in there or the polys skyrocket really quickly for things that should be relatively light.
@IanLetarteАй бұрын
That makes a lot of sense. Yeah i bet there's a good geo nodes solution!
@IvanMyRooMАй бұрын
I have to admit that this is something very nice, beautiful. There is a clear passion for creative work. It's cool to see that you still go and make stuff, no matter what. It does make me a little sad that I am not like that anymore. Maybe I will be, at least I hope so. On the other note, that speaker creature is very nice idea! Honestly, didn't watch what you did with that one, but what I would do is to make him burrow his hands into the ground and make a noise. Deep sounds from the earth itself. And, if you are near him, you will feel the trembling and vibrations. Further, that can be used by some alien race to determine if there is viable minerals to dig.
