Interesting with regards to various film titles. It just goes to show how various countries were trying to tempt in the audiences by using "racier" titles. One of my faves, "Night Of The Eagle/Burn Witch Burn" springs to mind. I'm sure I read somewhere that they called it "Night..." to give the impression that it was a follow-up to the classic "Night Of The Demon", which of course, it isn't. I have a nice U.S. one-sheet poster for "Burn Witch Burn", which hangs next to my U.K. "Invasion" film poster from 1965, with Edward Judd, which is one of my guilty pleasure films. Back to "The Flanagan Boy"..., it's great to see all those character actors floating around in this. What... no Marianne Stone though!!😕

Yet another film I haven't watched! I was trying to think of films with Lois Maxwell in that I've got. The "alternate titles/scenes" are interesting from the "need to see both versions" point of view, as I made a couple of composite versions of a few films. I was born in Blackpool and I can remember going up to the top as a kid. Nostalgia. Tragic what happened to Stannard though. It's bittersweet watching him in Strikes Back knowing he probably had weeks (?) to live and he didn't know it. Gutted we'll never see the African one. Have to agree with most of the comments regarding Hy's performances in this and Celia. She's definitely plays a more shrewd and direct character in Celia than in this, but she does have room to spread her acting range/singing wings a little. I agree, this is pretty average, and I feel that if another actress had played Hy's role, it would have been totally forgettable.

Yikes.... don't mention Michael Medwin! After seeing him in "The Lady Craved Excitement"! Which I watched again last night, and it's a little better on second viewing. Sigh... Hy.

Never seen this myself, and from your reviews, it sounds like I haven't missed too much. Cracked up at the Hy Hazell reference in the intro😋! Me thinks someone needs to form a "Hy Hazell Appreciation Society". I watched "The Lady Craved Excitement" the other night with Hy, but it's not that good. It's a comedy, I guess, but not really funny. Michael Medwin tries his damnedest to be funny, but fails dismally. Hy breaks into song a few times, and looks mighty fine to me. Worth a viewing just for Hy, but don't expect too much, and as for Sid James playing an Italian... yikes!!

Sid James doing Mario years before Mario was a thing is far funnier than any of Medwin's efforts ha ha! Dr. Morelle is definitely one for the completists. On paper, it's a good enough idea, but the execution...

Totally agree, the title is a bit misleading, but not too bad a film. I enjoyed it myself, for what it is, but the Valentine Dyall connection is a little misleading. Rashmon Hall anybody? I think a certain penny dropped for me with the boathouse scene. Yet another very attractive Hazel.😜

@@TheHouseOfHammerPodcast True. I thought Hazel Penwarden was a missed opportunity by film directors. She's a very bright 'n breezy character, and I'm surprised she didn't really do a heck of a lot of other stuff.

Totally agree with all your guys comments. I've watched this 3 times in the last couple of weeks. Hy Hazell is so natural/believable in her role(s). Absolutely enjoyed every minute of the film. Love the shot near the end, when Larry and Celia are being chewed out by the cop, and Celia is just standing there, arms folded, and twiddling her fingers on her arm waiting to pounce on the cop. The only "Oh, come on..." bit, was the ladder when they're getting ready to climb up it. The angle of the ladder from one shot to the next was a little suspect, but I'm being really picky there. Lovely little gem of a film, and Hy was so hot.🤤 9/10

We were all blown away by Hy Hazell to such an extent that she remains our drinking salute to this day. You’re right, you can be picky, there’s plenty to have a go at, but then you’re missing out on all the fun. Glad to see you enjoyed it as much as we obviously did.
