Hello Gabi. I'm a Christian woman (Catholic) but have always had an interest in other religions. I was taught at Catholic school about Judaism and I knew as a child about your main celebrations and Kosher food etc. Very basic but it sparked an interest in me. My son also who this year is 20 and he's now studying at Leeds University had the same interest. I've been to Aushwitz.I think it's important we do not forget but then the Polish guide said look at Rwanda , Kosovo and others - we have not learned. It is a Sollom & holy place. The suffering is palpable from the fake cafe with jolly music at the entrance to disguise it's true purpose. The photographs of shaven head inmates, the fear in their eyes that haunts me still. The meticulous records under these photos with the date of internment and of death. Naively I did not realise those not gassed only lived days or 2 weeks. I thought I'd find the hair,teeth,glasses & shoes famed as a horrific artefact in many documentaries the most harrowing. They were not. The 'standing' cells where prisoners were practically bricked in alive and the camp senior Nazi''s house where his child's swing swung out over one of the crematoria sickened me most. I must say though the place requires respect. You are walking on the Ashes of the persecuted and murdered. So behave accordingly. Yet there were several Israeli school trips also there on my visit & I was appalled at their loud disrespectful behaviour. I was disgusted as they playfully chased each other around the glass walled room containing the belongings of their ancestors. I was shocked. My guide said by far the most disrespectful visitors are Israelis. I find this bizarre & unless I saw it with my own eyes I would not believe it. I've been to the Jewish museum in Manchester and I am social media friends with a Rabbi and others from the Manchester based documentary. That led me to documentaries in Stamford Hill and to those about you and your lovely and highly funny wife. I stumbled across a post of yours posted while you were sat on a bench in Stamford Hill vlogging about life and marriage. I may have misheard if so accept my apologies but did you refer to the death of your wife? If so may I ask when and why she passed? May I also express my condolences and sadness. X
