I tired the update with my internet plugged in the LAN, wouldn’t that bypass the WiFi chip?

My ps3 slim has the exact same error and next to the wifi module there is a capacitor shorted but the prices of a parts console are too high, I can put another 10 or 20 bucks with that money and just get a fully working console

omg i'm glad i didn't have to do this. I thought it was going to be straight forward and easy but i kept getting a data corrupted error. Gave up on it a few days, built an actual PC haha and felt the itch for more tinkering. Came back to this project, and still got the same data corrupt error. I then decided to take the usb with the update data and go to the ps3 website and download a fresh firmware again to the usb (with the appropriately labelled folders). plugged it into my ps3 and attempted it again AND BAM, it finally worked. Made it through all the way for a complete firmware update on a newly installed ssd! now to restore the back up from my original HD... fingers crossed its as easy as its supposed to be.

man if I ever come across this on eBay? well I'd buy it at 200 bucks and free shipping.

How long have they lasted? Or did you only use them for the videos.

I have a CECH3004 lying around with the same problem Sent it to a repair guy a few years ago, and he took the entire chip off the board and basically used wires to connect it back to the motherboard 😡, the issue still exists 👎 If only you were around... I dunno if I'll ever fix this PS3Slim , Im relying on a SuperSlim now.

I've been using an ethernet cable since my wifi/bluetooth on my ps3 broke out about 2 years ago. I've done multiple system updates since then and successfully completed updates no issues. This newest update 4.91 the update breaks out mid way through. I don't understand why it now has an issue with my wifi even though ethernet working perfectly?

How much would I have to pay you to ship you my ps3 and fix it?

So funny you mention this, prior to me trying to update my PS3 I had been trying to connect to wifi as my PS3 is in my living room and it's not ideal to run an ethernet cable to it. Tried to connect to wifi multiples none of them worked, so I ran the ethernet cable through my apt just so I could update it. About 54% through it does this. And now having seen this video it makes since why my update is failing as it would never even connect to wifi in the first place. Thank for that info. Soldering is the one repair I can't do lol. Well I can solder but not that tiny so I won't even try

I have a CECH-2501A with this error. I've tested those points and there is no short to the WiFi chip. I've also checked/replaced the CMOS and tried new hard drives. Do you have any other ideas on this?

How do you access the menu with the LCD Screen that says AV2. I got one of these but do not know how to access it.

I've had quite the same issue happen on a $15 1TB Xbox One (console only, thought it was 500GB at 1st but found out once opening it up that it had a 1TB HDD in it that was quite lucky) that looked like it was dropped wouldn't power on well I found out the faceplate isn't even connnected so I reconnected it and that fixed the no power issue.
