(9.45) you cancelled out -8X1 and +11X1X2 while calculating for Male. It's ok. (11.50) But you did not cancel out +2X2 and 11 X1X2 for calculation of Female. However, X2 should be zero as you're calculating for Female. Could you please explain it?
@Diagknowstics16 күн бұрын
Great question! Here, "X2" is defined as the hours studied, so it would not have a value of 0 for Males. Rather, the "X1" variable (Female) captures both male/females, just with a value of 0 indicating male and a value of 1 indicating female. You could instead re-define it as "Male", and in that case 1 would be Male, 0 would be Female. Having both a "Male" and "Female" variable would cause the regression to fail to run, since you now have two variables that are effectively "co-linear" (where one can be predicted 100% from the other), so that's why you just have to choose and go with one.

Hello , I have studied already optimization in my university but I have heard you say that we cannot say know if an extremum is a minimum or a maximum . I don't agree as in high school , if I do remember , we know that an extremum is a maximum or a minimum through the sign table that is to say that if we have an extremum point between a negative sign and a positive sign in the derivative then it's a minimum. If we have , an extremum point between a positive and a negative in the derivative then it's a maximum...
@Diagknowstics3 ай бұрын
@@ihebbibani7122 yes it is true that you can use the “first derivative test” (sign table) to further test if it is a max/min/neither. However, this video was about the second derivative test specifically, which is always inconclusive if the second derivative is zero (then that means you must use the first derivative test/sign table)

Hi, the “graphing” is in the first few minutes (ending around 2:50) where it is primarily using the stata menu to create “graphs” (histogram, pi charts). Was there another type of “graph” that you had a question about?

One question about three-way interaction terms. Let's label each variable A(main variable), B(1st moderator), C (2nd moderator). I'm interested in (hypothesize) the relationships A-B and A-B-C. Should all two-way (AB, AC, BC) and three-way interaction terms (A * B * C) be included in a regression model and result or would be it fine to include some of interest (AB, ABC) only?
@Diagknowstics10 ай бұрын
Great question! Yes, to get an unbiased estimate, you would have to include all of those interaction terms in your regression. Hope that helps!

I was teached that if the Total Cost is given by for example f(x)=1000+2x+x^2 then the MC would be f'(x) 2+2x This works when x is 2, but not when x is 1. Why? The change in cost from f(1) to f(2) divided by the change in quantity from f(1) to f(2) is is not the same as f'(2) But the change in cost from f(1) to f(2) + the change from f(2) to f(3) divided by 2 is the same as f'(2)
@Diagknowstics Жыл бұрын
Great question! The derivative is the exact marginal cost if we assume quantity is continuous; the formula here about the change in cost over change in quantity is useful when you don’t have the precise formula, and all you have is a table with values at whole number quantities

When there are 100 doors then switching seems favourable and reasonable. But when there are 3 doors its hard to comprehend switching. Because 1/3 is 33% And 1/100 is 1% So instead of 33% of being in the door I chose the odds go down to 1% So for the case of 1% its obvious to switch! Say for 1000 doors, the door I choose will have 0.1% chance of having the price. What I'm trying to say is that its more favourable to switch as the number of doors increase.
@Diagknowstics Жыл бұрын
Exactly! Most people don’t even believe switching is beneficial AT ALL when there are 3 doors, because they get hung up on “isn’t it still 50-50?” So the analogy is that if it’s obviously beneficial to switch with 100 doors (which it should be obvious), then it’s at least a little beneficial to switch when there are only 3 doors (“a little” still being doubling your chance of winning, which isn’t that little!)
@geeknerd763 Жыл бұрын
@@Diagknowstics That's the explanation I was searching for.Damn! you're good at explaining the tiniest of the details.I was thinking I wouldn't get the 3 doors part at all until I saw your comment.Thanks for clarifying it a 100% through your detailed response.
