Sheesh. I agree if you're looking to take the clarinet to the farthest of your potential then with that kind of singleness of mind you will get out what you put in. Put in 6 hours a day that is going to take you places the 1 hour a day can't come close to touching. For me though becoming a professional player is not in my future as long as I am married with 4 kids and am already heavily involved in many disciplines. But then that's not my goal either. I play to minister to others and I do what I can to better enable myself with what time I can offer. When I was young I was only required 2 hours a week to practice for my school orchestra. I met the minimum requirement a d naturally I did not advance much. Now I am 33 with a life packed full of responsibility but yet I manage to practice my alto sax or clarinet 1-2 hours a day and I have advanced in the last few years far more that I ever did when when I was young.

Air inhalation DOES naturally reduce as one inhales. This is not wrong or improper. Just do whole-body exercises to increase the demand for oxygen. That is all the respiratory conditioning one needs. No gimmicky breathing gadget is required. Use the nose for inhalation as much as possible. "Fast" air is actually a reliability. You probably are referring to flow. Not speed.
@fabianhuegli3 күн бұрын
@@BrassBro-Science-ys7sg mh if you breathe in slow towards the end of your in breath you will breathe in the upper part of your lungs. It‘s better to bring the air down as far as possible into the lower back until the very end of the breath. Since the end of the breath is also the beginning of the next note you play. Speed of the air: I am referring to speed of the air. Fast air does exist. (If you imagine a water flow out of a waterhose it is slow, if you close off the hole with your finger, the water will be faster and will travel more far. The amount of water doesnt change) -> same water flow, but faster water flow
@BrassBro-Science-ys7sg3 күн бұрын
@fabianhuegli air goes into the lungs. Air flow DOES naturally reduce upon inhalation as the full lung volume is approached and elasticity becomes more prominent. The water nozzle analog is not applicable for a number of reasons. It varies the flow. It's not the same flow. Flow velocity is then reduced in the supply hose, and pressure is not lost. High flow velocity is a liability. Air flow velocity varies within the system. High velocity of flow is a liability to efficient flow."Air speed" is just popular verbiage and teacherspeak term for general exhalation effort or air pressure.

Hi. For about a year now, I've noticed that my neck hurts when I play the clarinet (especially when I play staccato or with my tongue). Like veins appear on my neck and my face gets red. And also the main problem is that I can't play staccato faster than 110-120, and in the same concertino by Weber I have very mediocre staccato passages. Also, there is such a problem that everyone around me says that I should put the tip of my tongue on the tip of the reed for fast staccato, but I don't understand what I should feel when I do it right. I would appreciate it if you could help me.

I had a problems with that reed case. 1. The reeds would slide to the end be damaged. 2. No matter how i cleaned them after playing even with the humidity pack, they became moldy. Now what I do is use the Rico vented sleeves tied in a group of five with elastic band as a reed gaurd. Before each performance I wet the reeds in water, then put my makeshift reed guard in a sealable plastic sandwich bag. When the gig is over the makeshift reed guard is let out of the bag. These vented sleeves that the D'addario reeds come in are perfect for storage...and they'e plentiful . I've been doing this for several years now and it works for me. No mold or damaged reeds.
