That is one of the saddest things I have heard in regards to football. Not having a national team anymore, because of the fear of defection. Absolutely insane.

Why is it that Szoboszlai and other Hungarian players don't refuse to play for a Russian puppet state, just as the Belarusian guy? Shame on them.

I enjoy Concacaf specifically because it's rough and less organized. From the national teams to MLS and Liga MX, it's just fun. Even if it's not at the same level.

Replays have been an absolute staple of the FA Cup since the inaugural competition in 1872. "F*ck the FA"'s what I say. I am a Southampton fan and in 1976 my club, who were in the equivalent of the Championship, beat First Division title contenders Manchester United 1-0 in the Fa cup final. This is our only ever major trophy (discounting the 2010 johnstone's paint trophy) and our run to the European cup winners' cup quarter finals the following season (still, I might add, as a second-tier team- this was literally like Cardiff or Bristol City getting to the Europa League quarters today) pretty much promoted us to the top flight two years later, and by 1984 we were finishing 3 points off the first division title. We weren't relegated until 2005. Without that cup win, which started with a 90th minute equaliser at Villa before winning the replay, literally changed our history, not only our trophy case but league positions for the next 50 years as well. Being an underdog rather than a big 6 fan who expects to get to the final without even trying, that's what's killing it all. We were the third Second Division side in the Cup final in four years... can you even begin to imagine a single one doing so today?? A mid-table championship outfit in Europe at all?? It all stems from hooliganism, and clubs trying to prevent it by forming the premier league which was a massive pig-out on money anyway, and big clubs getting bigger, small ones getting smaller. The gap between the Premier League and the Championship is bigger than the one between the Championship and the national league!! THAT IS MENTAL!! Revenues for already struggling non-league teams (I literally watched my local semi-pros today) will plummet and the Yeovil's, Torquays, Scunthorpes, Southends, Rochdales, Oldhams, even clubs like Morecambe, will barely, if at all, manage to stay afloat. Scrapping replays is like scrapping the bloody final or banning non-league teams. Biggest tournament in Britain being treated like a Mickey Mouse cup by the rich cash-grabbers cough Saudi Arabia cough and that atrocious attitude to such a big and romantic competition is being further enhanced by its own organisers. I can't remember who it was that said, in the 1980s, "English football is diseased, and it looks terminal," but it still rings true today. If I've just made that up, I bet Sheffield United's chances of getting relegated that it'll still ring true in another 40 years. If you've read all of that, cheers. And cheers alfie for letting everyone know. Disgrace

Make all FA draw cups at the home of the bigger club. that way it won’t take luck for the lower teams to benefit financially and no one will care if you get rid of the second round.

Got to say, this absolutely disgusted me. Yes, I do support one of the "big 6" but I used to love the FA Cup. Before my team got a huge cash injections, prior to us playing in the Champions League, a good cup run was welcome. Playing in Europe wasn't about Barcelona or Milan but a great run playing teams like Vicenza and Bettis. However, I remember going to an FA Cup replay against a lower league club. And it was great. Does anyone else remember the BBC having a whole day build up to the FA Cup final? Watching cheesy club songs etc etc? That was when the FA Cup was great. I think the Cup started to die when Man United pulled out. And it is hust getting worse. Replays should not be scrapped and makes me disappointed (but not surprised) that my team probably agreed to this. Rip FA Cup.

Pyramid structures are fun. Most people look at a pyramid and believe the few are at the top of the pyramid. Look at those things in Egypt, man; massive stone buildings with the little point at the top! Thanks to gravity, it would be hard to build an inverted pyramid that stood balanced on a point. But the pyramid in business, in government, in pretty much every instance concentrates power and wealth in the hands at the top. The pyramid is always going to advocate for this and create this. To see the real effect, the inverted pyramid reflects the wealth at the top vs the abject poverty at the bottom. The fun thing about inverted pyramids is that they are not well balanced and will topple. The unfortunate thing about this is when they topple, it is chaos for everyone. We are all slaves to pyramid thinking right now and maybe should try spheroid government and markets to be more mobile and adaptable.

the Welsh cup final was on Sunday 28th of April between the new saints and Connah's quay, it was a thrilling game that Connah's quay eventually won 2-1 thanks to a screamer from from Josh Williams, but there were only 1,246 people in attendance. it would be great if you could do a video on the Welsh football pyramid, the situation it's in, and why it attracts so little attention. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The simple fix to this replay would be to make the game at home for the lower league club, if the premier league clubs can travel to the ends of Europe in Europa league. They can surely play at a club in the UK...8 hours by bus

Thanks for some much needed sense and perspective on this. Just missing the ludicrous claims from the likes of Grimsby about the importance of a "second chance" to progress. A second chance obviously only benefits the bigger teams in terms of progression.

It’s time to merge the league cup into the English football league trophy , that would solve the headache of the league cup which let’s be fair is even more devalued than the FA Cup. Allow the premier league teams not in Europe to compete if they wish to also. Next make the championship teams join in the first round also and then the premier league ones in round 2. I feel if the championship clubs want to devalue the cup then at least have them play at the stage where all the other league clubs join in as well. Remove 4th placed clubs in the premier league to have the final European Cup place and award it to the fa cup winners, I bet you’ll soon see every team play their strongest players then.

There is a easy way to fix the FA Cup and it's not seeding the draw, but when/if a lower league team is drawn with a championship/Premier league team the premier league team has the option to buy home advantage. Money then goes to the lower league team as would half the revenue from the attendance. I think its Sweden or Norway they do this in their cup competition.
