Thanks for this. We did abeka two years and absolutely despised it because the cost, lack of help, lack of math explanation (for older grades), incredibly lengthy day (6-7hr)….so this year we are doing the good and the beautiful which isn’t bad but someone suggested bju or A.C.E After watching your review it helps me realize ace is not for us either. So we may do bju next year.

I looked at BJU and I don't see French. I wonder if it's no longer an option. Anyone know if it is there and i just can't see it.

I actually have and used this for my 6th grader and barely got through the first 49 lessons that year. I was curious what other people thought and how they used it. He is now loving History now, so I am going back to it and will add the Literature this year (8th grade). Thank you for helping me to decide which curriculum to use next year.

I’m curious how your education pedagogy classes compared to your experience with Abeka. Abeka is very focused on direct instruction, and not many colleges of education acknowledge its benefits.
@mrsbashamelementary8 ай бұрын
Honestly, direct instruction is the most efficient way to teach a whole class. Project-based learning is becoming more and more popular and it is great, but it's a lot of work for the teacher to facilitate these projects. For homeschooling, I prefer project-based over direct instruction because you typically have just one student so it's much more feasible (and less boring for the student!). Direct instruction for math and grammar is the best method of teaching these concepts, which Abeka uses.

Hi, I was just wondering what maths program have you found that has worked for you and your children?
@BrandilineMelt2 жыл бұрын
All the charts are in the Handbook for Reading. I started out using the seperate charts and eventually just used the charts in the handbook. Never used the games, they are more motivational than anything. Had three kids never used the games. May be fun but certainly not necessary. I only used the basic phonics flash cards with one child who needed alot of extra practice. They're not necessary. I have written extra words on a mini white board for two of my kids. Also drew blend ladders on a mini whiteboard, the printed ladders were just too big. I loved the blend flashcards though.

Thank you! I have a question. I have a 6 year old and she reads cvc words ok. Her fluency can improve, she needs more practice. But with her long vowels , that’s where it gets confusing. Is this level that you showed good to teach long vowels or does it just teach short vowels? I’d appreciate it thanks.
@mrsbashamelementary2 жыл бұрын
Hi! This level will teach both long and short vowel sounds! I wish you all the best. Thank you for your comment. 😊

What about storing the Concept Cards? I have the other charts in binders, inside page protectors. But with the concept cards being a different size, I've had a harder time figuring out a good way to store them that keeps them accessible
@mrsbashamelementary2 жыл бұрын
Hi Leslie, I never used those cards since they are not necessary to teaching their phonics program so I don’t know their size. I would suggest maybe finding a file box their size to store them in or perhaps a file holder/organizer for a desk? I hope you find a solution! Thank you for your comment.

I’m currently homeschooling 2nd and 3rd with Abeka. I definitely recommend the teacher edition. I usually look on Facebook or eBay for a less expensive option. I don’t use the lesson plan books. They are too cumbersome for how we homeschool. Even though the math is easy to grade for the younger grades, it still offers the story problem wording. However, once you hit 3rd grade, the teacher book is exactly like the student book, and the wording for story problems are not included. I use the teacher editions for fast grading and to clarify what they are going for. This is our 3rd year with Abeka (no videos). I hope this helps. However, you have to homeschool how it works for you. ❤️

We did too! When we read one of the five in a row books for home school, we cook all the recipes in the books or cook foods from the book's locale. For this book we searched for the recipes online and made all the foods mentioned in the book for our own Thanksgiving (in June), including the turnips and cranberry bread, which have become a tradition in our home for Thanksgiving. :)
