I realize this video and comments were posted many years ago, but I feel the need to clarify a few things: John Sr said what any parent would say to a child of any age going through something. Whether that be difficult or not: (Not word for word) If you don't say anything, we don't know what's going on. We can't see what you do, so if you do see something, not just hearing things, you need to let us know so we can address it immediately and help you. We're not ignoring you. We don't want you to suffer. It's not that I'm "not checking in on you" but I also can't read your mind. You have to let me know these things. My son has ADHD and I'm almost 100% positive he's high on the autism spectrum as well, but there are limited resources where we live to have him fully and successfully tested to see for absolute sure. He faces challenges at school and outside when he's away from me that I would have no way of knowing about unless he told me. I've said MULTIPLE times, "Sweetie, I can help you. We can get through this and anything that comes our way, but I won't be able to if you don't tell me there is a problem. I don't always sense something is off. I need you to have an open line of communication with me so we can fix what bothers you just as quick as humanly possible." The psychiatrist was a little wrong in her wording, but I think it simply just didn't come out right, and John cut the interview before either his father or psych could explain themselves. It's true, parents are not your doctors. What I think she was trying to ultimately explain is that your parents won't always know what to look for or ask to see the full state of your mental health, but they do care always. Which was what John Sr was trying to explain as well. That being said, I also understand John and him cutting the interview. It's hard to look at all sides of a situation the minute it's happening and have the proper reaction to it even in the best state of mental health. He might have thought his parents, or at least his father, would check in on his hallucinations perhaps? Or pick up on something that would make his father question whether or not they had become visual and not just auditory because his father has the same condition? It's hard to say. Bottom line: Things were miscommunicated but most definitely not intentionally on any part. Being a parent is hard. Being a parent of a mentally challenged child is hard. Being a mentally challenged parent of a mentally challenged child is difficult. We're all doing the very best we can and some days we are going to fall short. Learn from those days and try harder tomorrow. There's nothing else you can do and nothing other than that should be expected of you. Understanding and Love - Spread it around like a really bad STD!!!

All those years of psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and psychiatric examination and not of those expert doctors thought to emphasize to John Nash Sr. that he should wear his seatbelt. (to put this into more technical and jargony language - he had a dangerous tendency towards recklessness, which meant that at times he might be unintentionally at risk of hurting himself.) This is the thing about psychiatrists. They blab on about this that and the other but sometimes can't see what is glaringly directly in front of them.

I loved his quick, dominating, and eccentric ways, and as an autistic ADHDer, I sometimes find myself resembling such impatience with others. 2E (twice-exceptionality, a formal term for gifted yet mentally troubled individuals), an intensity towards what one finds matter within their imbalanced brains.

This is not natural no one is born this way. The family is sick and the curse passed from father to son. I speak from experience, last year I was at my deepest point with lots of religious psychoses als the body language of the son I recognize. Through simply exposing myself to LIFE my anxieties and crooked ideas of reality dissolved layer by layer and I also realized what sheer randomness could cause and cure severe mental states, deflating my self-importance and growing my confidence in the world. I also want to say christianity can be a dangerous religion I completely lost myself in it and it brought my nothing but useless suffering. Real brahmin lies in simplicity, calmth, breath, health, clarity not in extremities, suffering or genius. I am glad I didn’t pursue a bachelor in mathematics, i’m just a regular guy now and I can be a positive influence on the people directly around me. I believe this sort of gentle striving for nirvana is the only thing we could possibly do to please God, and is also the way to live best for our own well-being and the people around us.

For those of us who have a loved one diagnosed with schizophrenia can understand this illness. I have been studying this illness and learning first hand for 20 years. It is devastating to the individual and to the family. However on the positive side, one can deepen an understanding of the human experience we call life. It is sad that humanity has been so low that the only place for many is in jail and many times in isolation. The cycles of the illnees in its severity was probably when Johnny turned to religion. It has nothing to do with being void of mathematics or vice versa. My own son is in that cycle right now. There is nothing wrong with religion. Maybe because of his studying and developing an understanding of God he went into remission so he could study. It is my belief that God has purpose in life for us to learn. Learning from the human experiences of those with a diagnosis may be lessons we are to learn from. There is no right or wrong, it just is. If we change some our philosophies and look at it in manner of this individual has a diagnosis of schrozophrenia, a disability, we see them in a more humane way as a human being.
