How do you determine what spoke lengths need to be,when relacing the rim. Many presenters do not say that center hub,needs to be measured when determining spoke lengths. So they just assume that everyone knows the length of the spokes. Not all hubs are the same length,they differ according to the diameter of the hub.

when we have a puncture again, will the sharp tip damage the rim with flat tire?
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom Жыл бұрын
Per Dynaplug's FAQ, they've "...never had an issue with a tip damaging a rim." www.dynaplug.com/faq.html But if you still have concerns about the pointed tip, we also offer spare plugs with a round/bullet point tip.

what type of plug would I use for a 45 gravel tire, the bullet heads?
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom Жыл бұрын
The bullet shaped tire plug is best unless the puncture is small enough to require the help of a sharp point to enter the tire casing. Typically if it is that small sealant would take care of the puncture.

More. So when you start pedaling there is less dead space waiting for the hub to get to next engagement point.

I'm sure everyone has figured this out by now, but just in case others are looking.....I had this same problem, and wheelbuilder alludes to the solution above. There is an end piece on the rotor side of the hub that prevents the adjusting clamp from sliding off after loosening it. the end piece is just a tight friction fit, and as stated above, you can just pop it off with a tire lever. It is easy to fit back on just by pushing it back on the hub end. The more major issue I ran into was something I overlooked on the description of the R45 rear centerlock hub, which is that you need a separate, not included, lockring for the disc rotor that allows the adjusting clamp to fit back on the hub. Make sure you have ordered that and have it on hand when installing your rotor to this hub.

Nice video, do have a question. How do you carry spare plugs if they are not in the preloaded insertion tubes? What's the best way to keep them in your bag or pocket? Or is the trick that you have to use their insertion tubes?
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. you can either purchase spare insertion tubes and pre-load the plugs or just carry the small plastic packaging they come in with you. Installing the plugs in the insertion tubes is very easy and can be done on demand.

How do you know which size to use ? I have Zipp nsw 303 and 404 wheels with cognition hub
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom 3 жыл бұрын
The size that is closest to your end cap will be fine. Just be sure the vice is snug on the end cap before pulling up on the wheel. The idea is just to hold the end cap with enough force to allow it to pull off. It rarely requires a significant amount of force to remove.

Any centerlock brake rotors are compatible. You will have to search around for the colors, but just be sure to pick up centerlock type. ISO disc will not work.

This method doesn't work for Thru Axle :(
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom 4 жыл бұрын
Yes the method is identical for a thru axle. Just pop off the end clip with a plastic tire lever to get the adjustment clamp off.
@matthewhartley603
@matthewhartley603 4 жыл бұрын
@@wheelbuilderdotcom Please can you explain how this works with a thru axle as its not possible to lock the spindle as there is no fitting for a 5mm allen key. Also the adjustment clamp does not seem to engage well enough to 'tension' the bearing due to the centerlock lockring. Am I missing something?
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom 4 жыл бұрын
@@matthewhartley603 The conical faced bearing retention/adjustment clamp will only thread in a few revolutions at best. This is normal on the R45 CL hub and works well for adjusting end play. The only allen/hex key you need is the 2.5mm for the clamp, which does not need to be tightened more than finger strength across the short end of the wrench. Not sure what you are referring to with regard to a 5mm allen key since there are none on the hub. Hand hold the opposite end of the axle and tighten the axle clamp with your opposite hand. There is no need to clamp any of the components tighter than that. Remember this is only an axle end play adjustment. Please email directly with any detailed questions or pictures [email protected], and we can get you setup.

Hmm, so this leaves a pointing piece of brass inside the tire. It seems like that could damage the rim if you bottom out on the patch.
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom 5 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a small brass piece inside your rim. I had the same concern and started using the bullet shaped tips. Have used a few dozen of these in the field and never had a problem with the brass head contacting the rim or tape.
@schristiansen3151
@schristiansen3151 2 жыл бұрын
If your rim completely collapsed the soft brass would be more likely to simply compress back into the soft rubber than penetrate the hard rim, but the rim would be completely trashed at that point anyway.

The demos I’ve viewed assume air has not been completely lost. I guess if that’s the case you do your best to reinflate the tire first??
@wheelbuilderdotcom
@wheelbuilderdotcom 5 жыл бұрын
The plugs work just as well with or without air in your tire. Only problem with letting the tire completely deflate is you have more pumping to do, which can be a drag in a race situation.
@wheelbuilderdotcom

If you loose pressure it just requires additional pumping on the side of the trail/road

Sadly, the pointy tipp is just too pointy for Schwalbe's Pro Core system. Thinking of buying it and using a file to round off that sharp edge. Schwalbe's Pro core system only works if the hole is small enough, like the video says. So for a bigger hole, I would need a not so sharp backup.
