It is dirt and wood, the EPA inspected the ship before sinking to ensure all oil and loose paint was removed.

Wow, who knew an incident like this happened before JBU 292? And wow….people back then dressed in business casual to fly….not like the ratchet messes they call people on board planes now.

Wierd how only the over wing exits were used. Surprised they didn’t use the rear exits too. I understand not using the front exits. Judging by the amount of people that came out, it wasn’t a crowded plane. I miss flying in half full planes.

Excellent. The US Rangers were created, trained and advised by the British army Commandos in 1942 Achnacarry Scotland. The 1st and 29th Rangers. "Ranger" was selected because of the British colonial Rogers Rangers (Queens Rangers). America's first special forces. 8 British advisors accompanied the US Rangers at Point Du Hoc aswell as 3 SWANS. 🇺🇸

Wow….an absolutely chaotic time in USA’s recent history, and you were actually taking part in this nightmare!!!! Thank you for your bravery and dedication. I was due to fly from Michigan to LA and it was the first time I felt completely at a loss on how to help anyone. Most people I’ve reminisced with - we were all just completely stunned!!!!! Thank Goodness for those who rush to the front and have the insight to remain calm, all have earned a place in history. Stay safe

The studio camera pedestals are actually robotic. Those robots are the TSM AutoCam (that was all the rage for many studios Radamec and Vinten also was in the market and ironically all 3 companies are now part of Vinten today), from what I can tell they have manual control on the panning and tilting. I think the pedestals had to be connected to it's controller to truck the pedestal. It's hard to tell in the shots if the operator was using a tiny joystick to move the pedestal in some of the sweeping shots or if there was literally a manual-only dial. The modern equivalent is the CamBot, that is robotic and is intended to be controlled by automation on a robocam op. Regarding the whole setup. This was a year before WSVN's _Newsplex_ - it's still today considered to be a game changer for it's time. Of course the plex was all partitioned off by a glass wall, and they only went into the plex when a story warranted. Their early attempt at a 11pm did originate within the plex, but clearly KIRO was ahead of it's time, and if they had phased it in, it may not had been a PR disaster as it became

Really glad you posted this. I had a tape of day one somewhere but it's lost. This was an incredible theme music package performed by the Seattle Symphony. While the format didn't work, it was a really cool effort to use the TV and radio teams, on a very slick working newsroom set.

If you ever saw the movie “Ray”, which is Ray Charles’ biography, you already know this, but back when Ray was starting out (in Georgia) he played keyboard in some pretty questionable places, was doing heroin, and was considered to be a troublemaker by the State of Georgia. Finally, the State of Georgia told Ray Charles he was not welcome in their state anymore and forced him to leave. Years later, Ray got his act together, got off heroin, and in 1960 recorded Georgia on My Mind. Then, in 1979, the State of Georgia issued Ray Charles a formal apology for kicking him out of the state, invited him to play at the state legislature (this video), and presented him with a plaque stating they were making Georgia on My Mind the official state song of Georgia. I guess Ray showed them who was boss in the end. 😉

Elizabeth Clare Prophet was responsible for horrendous deeds while she was the CULT LEADER of the Summit Lighthouse and later the CHURCH UNIVERSAL AND TRIUMPHANT. From ripping off her staff financially for decades, to treating her staff like slaves, to approving the illegal purchase of caches of weapons and military vehicles, to calling for the building of a vast underground bunker complex, to having sex with specially chosen members of her staff, and ALL IN THE NAME GOD and the ASCENDED MASTERS. ECP's arrogance and pride knew no bounds and she was always totally aware of her misdeeds!

Who was the consultant behind this anyway? Was it a Frank Magid thing? I don't think Ken Hatch and Andy Ludlum dreamed it up all on their own. WTHR in Indianapolis had done basically the same format 15 years earlier, in a smaller studio and without a radio station to integrate: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYGzaWBjrNaWa6c It would not surprise me if some of the same brains were involved on the creative side.

I can add to this as I was very much involved with this incident almost 25 years ago. The reason the evacuation occurred overwing was because due to the friction from the nose wheel tires smoke was coming up through the bottom of the aircraft and into the cabin. At that point the crew had no idea where the smoke was coming from and you know with smoke comes fire. So an evacuation was initiated to err on the side of caution rather than not knowing what might be occurring next... meaning a fire. By the way, N628AW is still flying today in 2023 in South Africa with a small airline.

Ah okay! I’m cabin crew, and was wondering why they were initiating evacuation - I presumed smoke in the cabin. Why weren’t the aft two slides at L2/R2 not used?
