It's tragically ironic how this track is called the "Ascension" even though it's the exact opposite - the final battle between Freeman and Nihilanth did not lead to an ascension but rather to a fall, for Xen and for Earth alike.

Sort of? The leader of the Xen was a Nihilanth who was originally enslaved by the combine, however would flee to Xen. There, the Nihilanth would enslave all of the creatures there and began producing Xen grunts

@@ChefPrownlos I think we wouldn't have much a chance against the Combines. Because the only way to get rid of the Combines is for them not to be able to reach you. That's why we are trying to close open portal throughout the entire conflict.
