Very good video! I didn't know the mulch had to be placed so far from the trunk of the trees. How do you suppress weeds that encroach into that space?

Very good vid however my understanding of the backflow preventer is that it can not be under constant water pressure so it needs to be installed after the timer and if your timer has multiple outlets you'd need a BFP for each port.

At 6:09 in the video, he puts the pressure reducer on *after* the timer.

From experience, don't buy dwarf trees it's much better and easier to prune regular trees.

It's funny that pentas are always listed, but I rarely (never) see any bees/ butterflies around them. If you want to add a bee MAGNET to that garden, add snow square stem - Melanthera nivea. I have never seen any plant draw in such a variety of pollinators.

You don't need to use two buckets. One bucket with recycled bottles, gallone jugs, etc - at the bottom can be used to create the water reservoir. See farming with Leon
@amathonn3 жыл бұрын
Paint the outsides of buckets with latex acryllic house paint wherever sun can hit them and they'll last longer. Check with your county waste management, you may be able to get discarded paint free!

Self-watering buckets are also a handy way to start seedlings. I crowd about 16 DIY paper pots in one bucket, plant my seeds and have ready-to-plant seedlings in a couple weeks . Bucket keeps moisture level just right!

Do you sell your roots cutting
@fayesylvester4353 жыл бұрын
I bought root cuttings from ebay. They have bud, but I am still waiting for them to develop good roots before I transfer them. I am sure if you search enough, you will find one that sell only cuttings. They are way cheaper than buying from "fast growing trees," of which I have not had good success with at all.

It helps if you tell what kind of soil you use. If you water from the top first, for a few days. How many plants can you stuff into the bucket. Should you feed the plants, how and with what? Don't be shy, tell us everything that has to be considered.

Greetings Rachel, thank you for sharing this awesome video and good luck with your Dwarf Red Mulberry tree! When you made the cuttings, I am curious as to what root hormones are good to use. I heard you could dip the part of the branch into pure honey, the side that you will place into soil. Is pure honey a good choice? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Edward

What is anyone’s opinion of CloneX, as a root hormone?
@UFIFASLeonCountyExtension3 жыл бұрын
Here's a great guide from UF/IFAS all about plant propagation. edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdf/MG/MG10800.pdf I wasn't able to find any science backed information about whether honey is successful in rooting, but with mulberries, you usually don't need anything additional. They are known for their quick and easy rooting. Rooting hormones are usually sold either powdered or liquid and made from plants that produce quite a lot of it. They can be applied to mulberries but also to other plants you wish to propagate.

Thank you for doing this after have such devastation from a flood! This could be redone - would love more of these videos. We live on 5 acres in north Leon County - interested in butterflies, birds, pollinators, native plants. As a note about plants - I have noticed that we live with somewhat clay soil (we are in the Red Hills region) and have acid soil - so any plants like columbine that prefer a more alkaline soil - never do well with us. So noting right plant, in the right place - good to get this information, too.
