This guy f*cks. This is the most sane 20 second introduction ever for a technical KZbin video.

LLMs are not a counter-example to the "poverty of the stimulus" because babies do not ingest significant fractions of the WWW. The question isn't _how can any system acquire language,_ it's _how do human babies acquire language?_ If anything, LLMs reinforce his point, because they do not work without gargantuan amounts of training language.

The video that shows Misha Mahowald at the Idyllwild meeting that Terry was trying to show at around 16:35 could be this one here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpmbgGiGqt2sis0 One small historical correction. When the Nature article (15:15) came out in 1991, Misha Mahowald and Rodney Douglas were in Oxford. The move to Zurich didn't come about until 1995. (And BTW, that's me in the white 'RM' sweatshirt, 2nd from the right in the second row of the photo at 24:00)

Very nice, Tobi. Unfortunately the link to Misha's thesis on the slide at 38:15 is no longer valid since the University of Zurich changed their domain name from unizh.ch to uzh.ch. Thus the correct link is now www.ini.uzh.ch/~tobi/papers/mishathesis.pdf
