I wear my hair like this a lot in summer - I use extra large rubber coated hair grips underneath though - those combs can break hair 🙏🇬🇧

You need to dry the roots before you do that - then add lightweight product that stops frizz but doesn't "dampen" it too much (The uneven parting idea works - but don't use a clip!) Dry the roots down to eighty percent dry - or more! Then add product & do the uneven crossovers parting. Avoid that kind of clip - & use large hair grips to pin parts of the length in place (Bobby pins I think you say!)🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇮🇪🇬🇧

Your hair is perfect length & thickness for your curls - they look gorgeous on their own. My hair dries like this & I never blow it out or straighten - my hair when it's blown out or espc straight just dies suit me as much as this does & ppl love my hair (mine isdeep copper red; & I have green eyes (I'm Celtic with Celtic curls) - definitely curls are becoming a thing again too which is good! 🙏💜🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💜🇮🇪💜🇬🇧💜

Yeah, this works great if you have thick, dense hair like yours. It doesn't work at all for thin, fine hair like mine. :/ I was not blessed with good hair.
