Kinda looks like those redbrick villages and small agricultural places In north France,and Belgium i roamed through with our fairgrounds attractions, in the seventies, the simple, poverty stricken, economically repressed areas ,and abandoned night time streets,no cinema's , no dancings, only one dirty old-fashioned café in every village, were you could get your hair cut, buy cigarettes, drink your coffee, buy newspapers and your daily " baguette" with people staying home for dinner, watching black and white television, and everywhere you looked, all kinds of antennas sticking out of apartments and houses, in France you only had three television channels available back then!!one in Flanders and one for french speaking Belgium, and two hilversum's in Holland,,back then it was even forbidden by law to have C,B, in your houses because of the cold -war and Russian spy activities? Europe was poor back then, but much better than nowadays with this doomed EU.

The fire popped and crackled around the grill as the wind and snow swirled around the barn. But you weren't fazed. It had actually become something of a tradition. A tradition you remember the start of fondly. 1984 the talking box (a nickname you still cheerfully use for grandpa's old tv) said there was going to be a big snow storm. A prediction that got quickly confirmed by simply turning your head and looking out the window. The adults started whispering in the kitchen until grandpa came out with a bellowing " we're camping in the barn" As a 6 year old it *was* a camping trip. There was a big fire that kept the barn nice and warm. Grandma made her famous brown bag specials of hobo pies and brown bag apple pie. You stayed up to the wee hours of the morning, listening to your big sister tell many of her famous ghost stories that scared you silly but you just *had* to listen. It wasn't much of a surprise she became a writer. It wasn't a big surprise when grandpa and grandma passed away. Its still a surprise how spending a blizzard in a big barn is a source of comfort.

@@darkambience Years ago I worked for a family whose father and mother started a landscape business with a phone booth like that. The Mrs. used to sit outside of the phone booth with a newspaper and lawn chair and take orders while the Mr. and his helper used to go out on jobs. Later the business became very successful and they were actually able to acquire the phone booth when it was no longer in use.
@darkambienceАй бұрын
@@DTWave81 Are you in the U.S.? Pretty easy to buy one in the U.K. even today, you could find one on almost every street up until the late 1980´s so they made thousands of the things, but it is very unusual to find one outside of Britain. They started to replace them with ugly stainless steel and glass ones in the 90´s but you can occasionally find an original one from time to time in a village. We call them Telephone Boxes.
@DTWave81Ай бұрын
@@darkambience Yes I'm in the US and those types of phone booths must have been common in the south because I just watched a KZbin video a few days ago and there was a very old and abandoned one just like it in the video. As far as the one that the landscape company had, it was the actual booth that the Mrs. used to use for business calls.
