How are those panels braced when installed since there are no top, middle or bottom 2”x4” rails?
@fencegenius
@fencegenius 5 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question. If you look 18:30 into the video you see the top and bottom rail the boards are nailed onto and there is a 2x4 cap. We build panels to go between posts and screw each rail to each post with 2 - pcs 4" #10 Exterior Screws through predrilled holes that we drill in the process.

Is there a chain link fence version ? Thank you
@fencegenius
@fencegenius 6 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question. We are currently only focused on Wood. In the future we hope to bring in various Metal and Vinyl types. Chain link is currently a distant desire because we have the least to offer with chain link because we are focused on enabiling PreFabrication of Panels or Kits. (The primary goal of Fence Genius) But we have been told there is a need for better estimating and BOM with Chainlink so we are considering it. Thank you

no gaps between fence boards for expansion / contraction?
@fencegenius

With Western Red Cedar (Green Cedar Non Kiln Dried) in the NW we don't have an expansion issue, rather there is more of a contraction. IF someone is using Import Dry they need to induce gaps. Thanks for the question

It's interesting they allow 6ft fencing on a corner lot, is it normal to have municipalities allow this? I have very strict guidelines in my neighborhood.

There are regulations on corner lots but primarily on the actual corner due to visibility. But this is a backyard set far back from driver’s vision. Thanks for watching and for your question.

We are in the Pacific Northwest as well and I could totally see how pre made panels would really be beneficial especially in rough access or areas that have bushes and stuff in the way. Often times it’s difficult running an air hose and not getting it caught on stuff much less branches hitting you in the face while your boarding

We would love to work with you on some of your projects as a fabricator. You set the posts, we can measure and fabricate, then you decide if we install or you install on your preset posts. Think of us like a cabinet contractor thinks of the factory that creates the cabintes, or the general contractor thinks of the truss manufacturer. Please reach out to us at [email protected]

When you are first hanging the panel what is the attachment point between the post and fence? Looks like a piece of hardware on the post side - is there a corresponding piece on the panel side?
@fencegenius
@fencegenius Ай бұрын
Part of the process isn't shown in this video but is shown in earlier MyFence videos. Our iOS App prompts the installer with the exact post cutoff height measurement, from the top of the uncut post and it also prompts to install 2 temporary hanging screws by telling us the measurements to the bottom of the top rails. After temporarily distributing and hanging, we go back and screw all panels to posts, removing that temporary screw. In this case, one person installed, and one installed final screws.

Have yall ever done 1x4 on both sides so both faves are identical or is the support simply not enough? Thinking about doing a 4ft high fence in identical style to this.
@MrEricknudsen
@MrEricknudsen 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question. If you’re referring to Nominal 1x4 WRC Trim, with Actual dimensions 5/8x3-1/2 or 4 in our case, no, this would not be enough support structurally. (Even for a 4’ tall fence.) If perhaps you are using a true 3/4x4 Actual size, when you double that by applying to both sides I would guess it may hold up OK for a 4’ tall fence. Assuming proper knot structure and nailing process. But not something we would ever do. Both sides of our fences are equally as attractive. And the screws are uniformly placed in the rails to post location so they are also aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for watching

Thats a beautiful fence. How did you attach the panels to the posts?
@MrEricknudsen
@MrEricknudsen 2 ай бұрын
We pre drill 2 pilot holes in every rail end during prefabrication and as we take the panels off the trailer we conveniently pre set the screws before carrying to the installation location. On the posts we have a temporary screw set based on the software algorithms direction, which also dictates the post cutoff height, to rest the top rail of the panel on, temporarily supporting the panels. Then once all panels are set, we come back to fine adjust and screw the #10, 4” long exterior screws into the posts.

How did you get all the gaps between the posts exactly even?
@fencegenius
@fencegenius 2 ай бұрын
Great question. With the Fence Genius software, posts do not need to be exactly even. Rather after the posts are set, we measure the distance apart, any grade change, amount of post available, and any post to post rotation. From that point the software calculates a solution, and prompts us how to fabricate it offsite in a controlled environment with better tooling.

Hi Keith. We use 2 pcs 4" - #10 Deck Screws per rail and one pc same down through the cap into the post to help stop post twist. We initially hang the panels on temporary screws set at the dimensions the software tells us to from the rough post top. (Before it is cut to height)

Hi Dave. Thanks for watching our video. Yeah, I probably go into too many tertiary aspects in the video and for that I apologize. Bottom line: 1) Establish a level line. 2) Reach down and measure distance apart and record. 3) Measure level line down to the lowest potential for wood and record. 4) Measure level line up and record. 5) Measure angle IF needed. We do this frequently and about a minute per panel invested in measuring brings many benefits with software and that time is offset with saved time on the install process. Thanks for watching.

An important note: These posts were set by the contractor over a week before I measured and built on them. They sat daily in 80 to 90 degree heat. During the measuring process, the post to post distance apart is measured low to the ground, So even if the post has moved/bowed some, for the most part it will flex back during install. If it is bad enough not to, you probably would want to replace it anyway. Regarding the measuring methods, there are a number of approaches, enbaled by anything from a Laser Level to a hand level zip tied to a straight rail to a ZipLevel. The measuring relies on establishing a horizontal plane along the post line. Measurer puts a small, discrete mark on the post in the level plane. Then software has user measure the lower portion of the post and input then the upper portion of the post and input. User measures distance apart low to the ground from post corner to post corner on the Rail Side and any rotation angle gets measured at this point relative to that line.

It's important to point out these are each custom shaped to fit the terrain between pre-installed 4x4 posts. Our Fence Genius software assists the user in the design of the system, but then for a nominal cost per foot enables this pre-manufacturing offsite to happen. This increases safety and efficiency, decreases waste, and results in better finished product. (And the builder isn't putting the lumber in the mud and dirt as they build) While this is an incredibly basic fence, Fence Genius can enable highly custom panels such as board or gap patterns, horizontal lattice, or arch type panels to be built using our software algorithms to create the finished contours and augment skill.
