The recording with Mugsy Spanier gets a lot of play in my car. By the mid 1930s the Clarinet recordings became more rare as you know. I wonder if that decision was down to Bechet or not as he really loved playing Clarinet...any ideas.

For me a slow and simple blues is the perfect warm up and practice. It just feels so damn good and gets the juices flowing. I can play them for hours. Whats amazing to me is, I know so many "Jazz" players that can play every scale , mode, all sorts of changes....but ask them to play a simple blues and their faces co blank and . ..they say " A what?" You brought this up in an earlier video and its so true. Its not easy to just play a simple blues.I find myself wanting to add too many notes. Like your playing your videos are inspiring.

Love the Clarinet. The vibrato is very warm. Going towards very Ellington feel.

You're probably thinking of Barney Bigard or Russell Procope.
@highaltitude7573Ай бұрын
@russelljazzbeck Russell Procope for sure but Barney Bigard is amazing 🎵🎶🔥
@highaltitude7573Ай бұрын
@russelljazzbeck some of those 1950s recordings are gold. Jimmy Hamilton probably one of my fave of that time is on a lot of recordings especially reworking of the early classics. Literally can't get enough of those Clarinet stars.
@highaltitude7573Ай бұрын
Barney Bigard playing on the late 1920s records are phenomenal. Cotton Club recordings.
@russelljazzbeckАй бұрын
@@highaltitude7573 Jimmy Hamilton is probably my favorite clarinetist, I'm obsessed, haha. I don't hear a lot of similarities between him and Adrian though. Adrian scratches my itch for the Nola sound a lot more! Not surprising he has more in common with Bigard, imo!

Another rhing I noticed, upon returning to cane, was that I had gotten so used to the Legere always playing essentially the same that I lost the flexibility in my embouchure to compensate for the little changes from reed to reed and over the course of playing a reed for a length of time. That skill came back pretty quickly.
@danielstover5094Ай бұрын
And you found one of my big complaints about synthetic reeds before you even started playing. No matter how wet you get them, thy don't adhere to the facing, making them nearly impossible to position the way you want and stay there. There's no swelling with moisture as cane reeds do, and therefore, there's no perfect seal and you can't do the suction test, and I feel alot of air is wasted just trying to get a response. I played Legere Signatures for a number of years because I was unhappy with all the cane reed options, and tired of all the hassles. I finally returned to cane a few years ago
