Well done Luke, I know what hard work it can be getting much lighter bells up let alone the heaviest bell in the world.
@christianong370310 ай бұрын
How can you rise that tenor on your own?
@kyletheringer4 ай бұрын
It is possible but towers usually have more then 1 person on tenors if they weigh more then 30 - 40 CWT
@2fr56 Жыл бұрын
Dang that bell seemed heavy. Not usually a tenor bell would take this long to be rung up but apparently this one. Plus the sally seems so long and purple like it!

82 CWT 4 tons and 100KG

They are on platforms, presumably to minimise the possibility of feet getting tangled in the ropw.

4 Ton is enough for a ringer. Also why do the bells always have their clapper held instead of being rung at this cathedral on practice or ringing up, down?

That can't be the tenor, surely. That's the heaviest bell in the world and it would take 3 people to raise it, with a strapper.
@kyletheringer3 жыл бұрын
It is the tenor
@caroline6871 Жыл бұрын
It is probably the heaviest full circle ‘tenor’ in the world

That heavy bell must have good bearings so the little bit of energy he's able to impart on each pull isn't lost, and slowly accumulates until the bell swings all the way around. And it's amazing how he keeps the rope so straight even when pulling so hard over such a long distance. I imagine if he didn't keep so perfectly straight, the rope would wiggle and fly all over the place.

Very good, I rung up the tenor at St. Patrick's Cathedral Dublin myself on Remembrance Day, took 6 minutes to raise it... and an extra 4 to stand it ;-;

Isn't Ireland a catholic country? I thought change ringing is exclusive for anglican church. Am I wrong?

Thats a interesting bell...sounds like someone hammering in a cave...
@kyletheringer3 жыл бұрын
It had a clapper tie on so there was no sound and the sound was the rope hitting the box
@KarlSheen3 жыл бұрын
@@kyletheringer that's sacrilege. ......a beautiful set of bells like that silenced! Btw do you know anyone in that tower that might be able to help me with individual bell sound samples? I have the 12 bells of St wollas newport recorded different positions with 5 samples per bell, I programmed steadman triples on my sequencer and the result was a recording nearly impossible to tell it was synthesised. ......apart from the perfect striking. Even added a "swing" to give it natural variance

I dont really hear any bell ringing !
@jenlfpotter38705 жыл бұрын
George Pietersen there's a sock on the clapper, for want of a better name for it, to stop the clapper coming into contact with the insides of the tenor, which makes a lovely booming A minor chord type sound, so I don't know why it wasn't sounding on this occasion.
@charlieapongol4935 Жыл бұрын
@@jenlfpotter3870 bigger bells go up wrong like the tenor of Maidstone the tenor of Liverpool is too big it's like around 86cwt so that's why tied the clappet
@2fr56 Жыл бұрын
Probably for silent practice. They took out the clapper so the bell won’t make any noise. Except for the fact that sounds like someone banging hammers on wood up there. But still makes the bell rope and sally functional. Don’t know exactly why they took out the clapper. Prob for practice
@Steven_Rowe8 жыл бұрын
that is a mathom effort, it would have killed me all 82 cwt. Pity the bells dont sound good In the tower, way to big a belfry and sound waves bouncing all over the place. They reckon the best place to hear them is Birkenhead.

+Shining Armor That would kill him!
@shiningarmor28388 жыл бұрын
The stay on the clapper? Really?
@jasonburnet91818 жыл бұрын
That's the clapper tie. The stay is the thing that holds the bell upside down. If they took that off, the bell would keep rotating and pull him up to the ceiling.
@shiningarmor28388 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Someone else referred to the tie as the stay.
@AshleyMonck8 жыл бұрын
+Ringer Jason It's also called a clapper stay as it makes the clapper stay where it is
@MatthewHoward3579 жыл бұрын

There must be easier ways of developing a "six-pack". Pity that we could not hear it strike - albeit the "wrong way". I doubt if anyone could raise it the "right" way anyway. Well done!
@patrickmeyer28028 жыл бұрын
+Henry Taysom you could probably ring it up right, but it would take about five people to get it to chime!
@spuds4t8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Meyer It's not about sheer strength but ****** stamina. The bell goes up only a very few degrees at each stroke
@kyletheringer3 жыл бұрын

one downside of the mechanics of bellringing is that no matter how strong you are the force you apply is limited by your own weight.... unless you have bicycle clips bolted to the floor ;)
@JohnSmith-ku1dr6 жыл бұрын
Not quite, you can pull more than your weight and accelerate yourself upwards.

You can't really expect the starting rounds to be perfect on an 82 cwt ring of twelve, whether its the start of a peal or not, and however good the band is. It takes time for ANY peal to settle down....Liverpool Cathedral is no exception!

They sound much better outside than either in the ringing room or belfry Spend a bucket load of money on proper accoustic insulation in the belfry and I think you would have a lovely sounding peal of bells. Even Yorkminster bells would sound a bit iffy in this tower.
