I have seen others say the spikes at night are due to slower blood flow sleeping, maybe even sleeping on your arm. This makes sense as you say your levels spike upon waking as your blood flow would be more active awake than at sleep. And blood flow would be more active upon exercise. Thanks for the review!

Great video James! Quick question, how did you get your photos so good?!?! I got my camera for Christmas and some of the photos are really blurry and out of focus, almost as if the person was moving in the photo (they were not). How do I get my shots still, nice and crisp like yours?

there's some secret sauce in their raw files, for sure. even when you shoot BW raw and convert it back to colour, something is different. it doesn't just affect the jpegs, don't believe me? test it out, set everything the same for both shots in raw (profiles, wb and all) the bw mode raws pump up the greens, along with something else to the contrast but i haven't figured out what yet. it's not just a retro camera.

I bought the Flashback One35 camera and I used it a few days ago for the first time on the 10th October and it was around 6:30pm so it was low light at this time of the year and I was shooting colour, on the Left side of the photos I could see lots of vertical Lines on the low light dark photos, can you see vertical Lines on the Left hand side of the photos which you should take in dim light plus the shutter button does not work by pressing it down half way, presumably because I think the flashback camera is a fixed focus lens, I find the shutter button a bit unresponsive as when you press it right down, it takes around a third of a second after you have pressed in the shutter button for it to actually take the photo, do you find that to be the case.

I haven't noticed the vertical lines in my pics but I wonder if you were in some sort of mixed light (flourescent, tungsten, LED) and the sensor couldn't synch with the light's cycle rate. I agree with your shutter button observations but I consider it a by-product of trying to recreate the old disposable camera. Thanks!

For about two years i was comparing pros and cons with "budget" cameras for what to get as my first. Knowing i had access to a set of old Konica lenses i quickly disregarded autofocus and decided on a X-T1. About 8 months ago i Bought a Mint condition X-T1 w. a XF 18-55 for around 500usd. And i love it, the XF is probably my least used lens since ive much prefer manual focus to the auto focus. Its been a long road of expirimenting and learning, trial and error. Currently using a 1930s Industar 10 on it and trying to figure out flash photography😅. Thanks for the vid! Also, any tips on editing software for beginners? It can never be the one, because of their app, the 'developing' of the film, and their servers. It's not the wait time. But it's not like our phones don't have the processing power to 'develop' the images that are of lower quality than the phone camera would make. There is no need for the servers, apart from data selling and AI training. I have heard horror stories about this thing you wouldn't believe. 'Rolls' disappearing. 'Rolls' only half-developing. 'Rolls' being developed by SOMEONE ELSE, then the app blocking YOU from developing that roll because of privacy laws. App account problems completely blocking someone from developing anything at all. And what will happen if the company goes under and their servers are shut down? Will you just have a nice fidget toy or a paper weight?

I can confirm everything you say. The first camera I bought with the money I earned myself was the Nikon FA in 1984. It was the most modern Nikon camera at the time and had P, A, S and M for the first time and was the first camera in the world to have multi-field metering. For me, the Zf is like coming home after decades, the same look, the same feeling in the hand, just great! A year before buying the Zf, I had switched to mirrorless with the Nikon Z7 II, technically the sensor is of course better, but the Zf inspires me much more and I prefer to use it most of the time. The Zf gave me the idea of adapting lenses, initially my own old Nikkor Ai-S from the eighties (50mm 1.2 and 85mm 1.4). It was a lot of fun to rediscover their quality and character, then Voigtländer M-mount lenses were added. And now, because I like these really small viewfinder camera lenses so much, I have bought a Leica M10 to my own surprise. Somehow completely illogical, technically a step backwards in every respect, but it's damn nice to use a Leica. Everything is as simple and straightforward as it was in the days of film. If you limit yourself to the classic focal lengths between 28mm and 75mm, you can manage very well with it. Nevertheless, the Zf is and remains my absolute favourite camera. It masters traditional and modern perfectly. I certainly won't be giving it away, the Z7 II probably soon. Their is no emotional connection.
@TheOtherJamesBrown

Thanks for the comment and feedback! You're spot on with your "completely illogical" comment about a Leica camera but there's something about holding that brick of brass and producing images with that signature look - even with all of the missed focus shots and simplistic metering. But, the Zf delivers all of that but with amazing focus and image quality.

You completely failed to mention the issue presented by the original screw drive AF Nikkor's. They function perfectly on the higher level DSLR cameras but when mounted to the FTZ there is not AF function available. Which rather peeves me as I go back to the F2 and the AF models that followed in the 80's and 90's. A time when truly high quality zooms were either priced sky high or so lacking in image quality they weren't very useful. As a result I have a rather large collection of AF Nikkor's that really don't work well as manual focus lenses due to the zero drag focus rings used to reduce the power draw for the autofocus. With the stepper motors now available and FTZ with a drive for the AF Nikkors would be dead easy and power could be supplied thru the lens mount.
@TheOtherJamesBrown
@TheOtherJamesBrown 4 ай бұрын
That's a good point and I seem to remember that discussion being had when the Zf was first rumored and then specs started to come out. If you look back at the Nikon Df which had a much wider compatibility with older lenses it really stands in stark contrast to the Zf. I wonder where the break-point was to drop compatibility with screw drive lenses and the advantages that the decision opened up. Thanks!
@Scooter-dm3qo

@@TheOtherJamesBrown There is no advantage at all for Nikon. What this is doing is to drive shooters into getting 3rd party lenses and also irritating every user with an AF Nikkor collection. Because the Z line is distinctly lacking in Prime lenses and those that are available are distinctly expensive. As a result folks like myself are turning to 3rd party Primes because of availability, cost, performance, and lighter and smaller lenses. Yeah, zooms have become great. However they feature giant lens hoods, very complex designs, and generally pretty poor bokeh. Take the 80-200mm f2.8 Nikkor Z and compare it to the old EDIF 180mm f2.8 AF Nikkor and you'll find both lenses are equal in terms of sharpness, the 180mm slays the 80-200 for Bokeh, and the difference in size and weight borders on stunning.

The only missing things of the ZF, are a bunch of Vintage style lenses, just like the 28 and 40mm SE. And it will keep its value, much more than the competition, appart from Leica. But Leica ? It's an Iconic brand, yes it is, but made for masochists people. Those who are ready to pay 2 or 3 times more for a camera which has basically nothing to offer but its archaism. The whole Leica experience is just constraints. I would be ok with that if they were cheap and reliable, but this is probably the least reliable brand of cameras. And if you have a problem, they will not only charged you like any other luxury brand will, but you will have to wait between 6 months to a year, to see your camera back (because they have a lot to repair).

I get your feelings on the Leica but that's where my analogy of someone collecting timepieces that need constant maintenance and still can't keep time with the accuracy and efficiency of a modern solid-state watch. Bad gas mileage, slow, poor handling and braking but there's just something about it... Thanks -

I adapted some Mamiya 645 lenses to Zf with a focal reducer. Manual focus only, but the AF assist in Zf is very handy. Some sample photos here in my video. All shot on Mamiya 645 80mm/1.9 with XPimage x0.71. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIKvo2WwgrNnhaM

Could you explain the focal reducer? Is that a requirement for the lens to work? I would have thought that the full-frame sensor would have just cropped from the visible area of the lens. Does it provide a faster aperture through the focal reducer? Thanks -

@@TheOtherJamesBrown it’s not a requirement. 80mm Mamiya 645 lens is still just 80mm in full frame but with a focal reducer it’s about 80mmx0.71=56mm

I recommend NOT getting the Neewer but the Megadap instead.

I'll have to check that out. I see they have a Canon adapter also. Is the build quality or compatibility better with the Megadap? Thanks!
