I remember him when I was young, he could make you laugh just with his giggle never mind his jokes He was a big fan of George Formby. One of the greats in British comedy.

Heartbreaking to see what years of hardcore chain-smoking did to Colin Compton. This was just a few months before he passed and you can see how gravelly ill he was…..

I used to read a comic called TV Comic, which came out I think at the beginning of the 70's. Goodwin had his own comic strip called Settle Down With Ken Goodwin. Does anyone else remember this?

It must’ve been in Heathrow terminal one departures. Frank Carson came over to me and some of my colleagues and told us a joke. We were in uniform which one that does not matter, but he told us a joke. This was a person from Belfast Roman Catholic who happened to be in the parachute regiment Can you imagine that in the 1960s

I remember watching George on the black-and-white TV in the 1970s, his style was CleanCut, no swearing no racism, but just that fantastic Scouse humour, and of course throw in the Irish gags as well, which at the time he did in a funny way, unlike some others?

I think the interviewer knew what he was getting. He was playing along and enjoying it. Woody was in a silly mood and being generous.

27:10 Woody described living with a horse. Q: But what about the smell? A: He didn't mind that so much. Watch the face. Not a crack of emotion. And yes, others have hit that beat as well; but other than perhaps Steve Allen, he might have been the first.

I think a 2023 Woody Allen interview would be identical, word for word. Even though this was entirely fictional in 1971. And very funny.

Not really, though he's surely capable. Treat yourself to the Robert Weide interview to see, and be amazed.

The passing reference to Michael Foot reminds me of The Goons in _The Histories of Pliny the Elder:_ Setting: Ancient Britain, lately conquered by Julius Caesar Sellers as Pliny [narrating the history in a sonorous, plummy, and stagy voice]: “For ten years, Caesar ruled Britain with an iron hand.” [Much more lightly:] “Then with a wooden foot.” [Again with great dramatic emphasis]: “And finally, with a piece of string.”
