Hello. Thanks so much for the tutorial. I followed along trying to create what you did but got stuck or confused somewhere. The image placeholder which intersects the rounded rectangle on the TITLE SLIDE ALTERNATE does not show up in the normal view when I go to check it. Thanks, Magnas

Glad the video is helpful. If the image placeholder was setup properly and it is not showing in the normal view, it might need a fill Colour, or maybe it got deleted? Start a new slide and see if it shows up. If not, it is probably not set up properly.

Thanks for this, sooo helpful! I have one question! In the branding I work with, I need to use the Medium font weight for headings. Since you don't recommend defining the font weight in the xml-code, is it possible to define the style for the Bold button/shortcut on Mac? Thanks 💖

Glad it is helpful! The reason I don’t recommend medium is because some font variations don’t work well in PowerPoint. PowerPoint might not know how to bold a medium font. Do some testing as some fonts work, and some don’t. You can still define it as medium in the XML file and have it show up as the default. Do a test first and ask users if they plan to user font variations in the heading. If the heading is always medium, it should be fine. If there is a mix of bold and medium, that is where some issues can show up.

Glad it helped! Make sure you also have the font installed on your computer. Or it could be the font name in the xml is not an exact match to the font name on your computer. Sometime a hyphen or space can make difference. If you have the font installed, open it on your Mac and match the exact spelling in the xml file. Another issue could be to restart PowerPoint so it picks up on the new fonts.

Wonderful videos! Thank you for the deep dive. Question; Is there a way to customize the bullet styles in a theme, for new text boxes. I know I can crate a Master slide with a bullet style for up to 5 indent levels, but can I create a new textbox style with 5 indent bullet level styles?

I'm glad you found the videos helpful! Yes, you can customize text boxes on subsequent theme slides. Set the "Master Layout," which will control the rest of the default styles first. Then, you can create new theme slides and customize the text boxes and bullets to fit your other needs. You can change the bullets and font sizes. Create as many variations as you need.

Hello. I am Mac user and Roboto is the custom font we use for our PointPoint presentations. I do not understand in your example how you created a Roboto.xml file in your Themes folder. I am starting from scratch and did not get to that step to edit the XML file that you showed in minute 24 of your video. Can you help me understand how or when you created a custom Roboto font in the Slide Master? Thank you for your help.

Purchased your template. Lots of awesome themed work with lots of example slides. I have some very large decks that I would like to apply this new template. Do you have any videos that review the most effective way to apply a template/theme to a large existing slide deck?

Thank you! Glad the template is helpful. Migrating slides to the template can be easy if the existing presentation and slides were setup properly using PowerPoint Theme Fonts, Colours and layouts. However, if the slides were created manually with manual font and colour selection, then they will not pick up the styles from the new Template. Think of a theme/template like a CRM or mail merge. If the components don't match, then the merge will not work. It will require database cleanup to make sure everything is tagged properly. It is the same with presentation slides. This issue was addressed in the "PowerPoint Template Masterclass" videos part 3. Wonderful content in each videos. You educate a lot of new concepts to your subscribers. Till now I didn't have any idea about Brand Personality or Brand Archetype. Thank you for this helpful tutorial. Do you know if you pick a custom font and someone does not have it installed on their computer, can they still use it? Or is it best to stick to the system fonts offered by Microsoft?

Thank you for the comment. Not all fonts work with PowerPoint. I just created a guide on the top 35 free fonts to use with PowerPoint and I will be recording a video about that soon. In the meantime you can get the free guide on my website. It is a 52 page PDF with the best fonts from Microsoft and Google that work on both desktop and PowerPoint Online. Not all fonts work in the cloud even if they are installed on your computer. Check it out and let me know how it goes. This is a great video, super helpful. Question, can you assign a header font and then a different font for body? When I tested I could only assign a single font. If I share this file, will it look for that XML file? Do they need that theme or just the font installed?

Glad you found it helpful. Yes you can assign different fonts for the Header and Body. Once the theme font is picked the other user will not need the XML file. But they do need to have the font installed on their computer.

Change the theme and select one font for the heading and one for the body. On a mac, you need to do this with an XML file. Once you upload the XML file to the right folder, you'll be able to select a new theme. Once you have a new theme in place that supports different fonts for a heading and body, you'll be able to make a selection.
