I see this video is about two years old it did pop up on my video list so I am watching. I love to make pillow cases and your tutorial is great. I just wanted to say I sew over pins all the time. I learned to sew from my grandma and she sewed over her pins too. I think if sewiist were honest most sew over their needles too. Thank you for a great tutorial.

What is the pattern? Please
@SweetheartQuiltDesign23 күн бұрын
It is called Elizabeth. If you google it you can find a free download. I got mine when I bought the Elizabeth kit. On the template page, check to make sure the square is one inch. I used the Sashing Star template set. It’s available on my website. Sweetheartquiltdesign.com Some of the cutting directions tell you to cut more strips than you need to cut the triangles. In one instruction it tells you to cut one square in half diagonally. You actually need to draw a diagonal line on the back of all the squares you had just cut and not cut one in half. Hope this helps! Have fun!!

I hadn’t heard of mount scrapmore, thanks for letting me know. I thought up the idea to save myself time and shared it. It can also be done with triangles on a roll and the triangulation software.

Ate you sewing over the pins?
@SweetheartQuiltDesign2 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s a little thing my seventh grade home economics teacher taught me to do and I haven’t broken the habit yet. You do have to be very careful, go slowly and you have to know your machine can handle it. I know there are some brands that if you hit a pin, it has to go to the repair person.

Such a helpful video! I'm putting borders on for the first time. Do you press and square up the yardage before folding it for cutting? Thank you!
@SweetheartQuiltDesign2 ай бұрын
You definitely want to press it, especially to get the bolt fold out of it. I don’t worry about squaring up the ends because you’ll get those straight as you’re putting the borders on your Quilt. After you measure your quilt, then you cut your borders to that length. So first you do a cleanup cut on one end and then measure and cut the other end. Then the borders have straight ends.

Do you alter where the seam line is on the opposite of the borders?
@SweetheartQuiltDesign2 ай бұрын
I like to cut my borders length of fabric so I don’t have seams. But if I have seams, I usually put them toward the lower end of the quilt. There isn’t a real reason for that, it’s just my personal preference.

Another way to easily construct the Hourglass block: take the two 10" squares. Draw one diagonal and stitch on both sides of the diagonal, 1/4" seams. Cut along the drawn diagonal line. Press to the dark. Place the resulting HSTs together with the seams snugged and dark paired to the light. Draw a diagonal perpendicular to the existing seam. Sew on both sides of the diagonal with 1/4" seam. Cut along diagonal. Press so all seams go in clockwise or counter clockwise direction, twirling the center intersection. With this method you are never sewing an unsecured bias edge. Just another option : )
