A fishy tale with a Finn, old trouts , cats and a Kitty; but without any pengwings. Benedict brought it to life as only he could.🥰

I absolutely love the character of John Thorndyke but there has only been 5 or 6 audiobooks on this channel. It is a joy to find this collection, thank you so much!

How is it that I, a mere pleb, know that it is pronounced Allen, not Allaine? Mr Cumberbatch has clearly never read the origin of the good inspector where Ngaio Marsh clearly states that it is pronounced Allen with no Y sounded. It's annoying. Pengwing.

Badly read, much as I like him. Ngaio Marsh made it crystal clear that it is Allen NOT Alaine or any other permutation, it is written Alleyn and pronounced Allen. I bet she's spinning in her grave.

The ways Cumberbach uses his voice are magical. Reminds me of the expertise of Nicol Richardson’ in “Excalibur”! Wonderful!!

No wonder the English language is in the state it is in if you use this method of learning from an error strewn written translation that’s a disgrace . Enjoyed the story and the reader though . 50:23

First Ngaio Marsh book I've seen. B Cumberbatch a class narrator and a good tale. My mum used to get a big pile of these from the library in the '60s !

It is delicious to listen to Benedict Cumberbatch read Sherlock Holmes stories, while acting both Watson and Holmes. His twenty-first century and nineteenth century Holmes are two different characters.

These have A LOT of characters to follow. Cumberbatch's voice acting makes it easier, but it's still NOT EASY.
