Much respect for making do. I started with a 2KW Liebert UPS my employer was throwing out. And four car batteries from walmart. I did not maintain my batteries and of course they had to be replaced every couple of years. After two battery replacement cycles. I am at 1/3 the cost of a lithium. With one mighty tax return, I splurged for an EG4 LifePO4. So glad I did. Next tax return I picked up an EG4 3Kw inverter and another battery. another year passes and two more batteries and financed 10 solar panels. This weekend I pick up my 5th 5Kw battery with a few more payments left from the panel purchase. You are opening pandora's box. I find alternative energy sources addicting. The system slowly gets bigger and my electric bill keeps getting smaller as I throw more devices on it. Once or twice a year the power goes out where I am for a day and sometimes days. Over the years, I am about 10 grand invested and $150 a month is shaved off my electric bill. I live in the burbs. Retiring in a rural space is around the corner for me. My system may outlive me.

Loooong steady charge like days and days and don't turn your bulk voltage lower than 29.8v .If you see the positve post starting to push the case up after you get them fully charged after running them like that for a couple months than lower the bulk voltage a bit . Been off grid for over 20 years and am the guy who has those 6 v batteries i offered you last year . Batteries like that take days to fully charge esspecially in the state yours are in . And also take each battery off the main bank one at a time to charge it separately . Only put it back after it passes load test and each cell is okay than move on to the next 24v battery . No worries. Lithium Ion batteries can and do catch fire. However, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries do not. It is a totally different chemistry. I can only encourage you to do the proper research before dismissing my suggestion. LiFePO4 are maintenance free, higher energy density, lower internal resistance, charge faster and are more efficient than Flooded Lead Acid. You are saying no to your own detriment. During the time you have been using and struggling with your Lead Acid, my batteries are still at 100% with a usable 58 kilowatts. by the way, at 8000 cycles my battery bank will still be at 80% or 80% of it's useful life remaining. yours will have long expired. I’ve worked at a lead acid battery factory for nearly eight years. I’m in charge of acid blending, charging, and load testing. I’m an electrochemical engineer. Here’s a bit of knowledge, batteries are pre-sulfated during the acid refilling process after the initial charge is performed. The stated reason is that it makes charging more efficient. And it’s true, it does. For a while. What really happens is that the concentration of sulfate used in the acid blend is formulated specifically for getting the battery just to the end of the warranty period. Motorcycle battery acid doesn’t contain the sulfate. When you buy a battery the best thing you can do is dump the acid out and refill it with new, clean, motorcycle acid in the SG range of 1.35-1.4 gm/cm3 The batteries aren’t sold with watered down acid. It’s actually a stronger acid than the acid used for charging. What happens is that the acid goes through a chemical change and no longer goes back into solution when the plates become sulfated. Adding higher gravity acid when this happens doesn’t help or fix anything. The plates are already shot and won’t sustain a load.

I have had good results with battery reconditioners. Not awesome, but good. I had a few low end O'Reilly car batteries last 10ish years by running a reconditioner on them for a couple of days every 4-6 months. I also had my truck battery run down to 4.6v on a 12v battery. I put a dumb charger on it to make my reconditioner think it was reading 12v and go into recondition mode, then shut off the dumb charger, it got that battery back up to 12.6v and it lasted another year before I had to replace it. It had been damaged in an accident and was not recoverable after that. It may have made it another few years if not for that. It was already three years past its warranty date when I had it run down.

I've dealt with lead acid batteries for 35 years in electric drive material handling equipment. There's one thing and one thing only that truly tests a battery, and that's a load test. You can have perfect hydrometer readings and completely toasted plates. I'm not going to give my 'battery speach' that I used to give customers on why they need to maintain their batteries and what happens if they don't. That takes 20 minutes to type out. Anyway, you need to load test before you'll know anything definite. Here's one thing I learned. They've been coming out with battery rejuvenator quick fixes for at least 25 years. We jokingly call them 'battery in a can'. I haven't seen one produce a satisfactory result yet. I wish you luck on it. I hope it works, but I'm 99% sure you won't be happy with it. I've replaced damaged cells before (you can do that in 3000 lb forklift batteries), and that's the only "repair" I'll ever do. Most of the time, every battery cell has been though the same life as every other cell, and most of the time, the fix for a tired battery is a new battery. The only fix for a non modular (car) type battery is a new battery.

@blacksmithden11 күн бұрын
@@smallcityhomesteaders1600 I've had TONS of people asking me if I can get them a deal on a forklift battery. Probably on a new one I can get 10% off or something like that. There are 2 problems with forklift batteries that most people don't think about. The first is that they are very expensive, and by the time a company takes one out of service, it's completely toast. Purchasing managers will run those things until the forklifts are burning up due to the low voltage/high amperage they're trying to suck out of them. The second problem most people don't think about is the weight. A standard standard 24 or 36 volt reach truck (the stand up units you see in Home Depot) battery is in the 2500 pound range. The average 36 volt sit down counterbalance battery is going between 3000 and 5000 lbs. If you have a heated shop to put one in, ok. You're still going to need a forklift or some kind of crane to unload it on your end. Getting one into your basement is pretty much impossible without some wall demolition and rebuilding. They sound like a good high capacity option, but they come with their own issues.
@realflow10015 күн бұрын
charge charge and more charge. get em charged for a WEEK! not just a day. Charge the ever living daylights out of them. raise your float voltage to 13.8 to 13.9v. or increase absorption duration. get them charged until specific gravity stops increasing/improving. old and really low lead acid batteries are stubborn to come back up if they've been like that for a while. they need heaps of time and extra charging.

The beetle in the image is a Burying Beetle. They are also known as "Carrion Beetles" or "Sepulchral Beetles" because they bury small dead animals to feed their young. The little bugs on its back are mite hitchhikers. Mites are tiny arachnids, related to spiders and ticks. They often hitch rides on larger insects like beetles, using them as a way to travel to new food sources. These mites are likely taking advantage of the burying beetle's hunting and feeding habits. While the mites might look a bit creepy, they are not harmful to the beetle or humans. In fact, they can be beneficial by helping to clean the beetle's body and remove any parasites.
