For a non assembled Nerdy Gurdy is is around 400 USD I belive. If you wanna buy it assembled then it will cost more

Thanks. I hope you'll have as much fun with your instrument as I do with mine. I used the recommended trompettes and borduns. For the melody strings, I have one viola metal D string (tuned to low D) and one Aquila Red guitar nylon string (don't know which one, tuned to high D). Not 100% content with the high one, tbh. It's not bad, but a bit squeaky sometimes. The recommended strings are great though. I just prefer this tuning to the standard G/C.

I've heard that there's a problem with the nerdy gurdy where the high sounds like a dying cat, I guess I'll find out and have to experiment. Thanks for your help though! @@samthomas214

Thank you. The upper (C) trompette is a bit of a gamble and seems to work when the stars align and the air pressure is just right. It is closer to witchcraft than science to get everything working all at once. I also replaced the high chanterelle with a metal viola A string, because the gut string that came with the kit was always screeching in the upper octave, even after fiddling with all screws and rosin and cotton for weeks. It is not a bad instrument, but one that takes a lot of patience during setup.

That upper chanter is a victim of geometry, in that as you press the keys they force the string harder into the wheel. And as you know too much string pressure gives the cat screech.
