Brilliant receiver. Worked on it and used it when I was an apprentice. We used them for RTTY over long distances together with the companion 1 KW transmitter. Uses the Wadley loop, that gives it great stability.

I imagine you are too busy to do this... but I have found that I like interacting with you. Very few people know the details of what you are sharing here so, if you wanted, you could post short vids from time to time... just defining terms and showing examples and your traffic would increase as young people would want to learn at the dribble.

Hi Tom...I've lots of video snippets I could upload but the workflow to post to YT takes an age meaning other things must take priority. Currently restoring a 1950s AM /CW transmitter and have a mountain of work thereafter including jobs on 3 vintage vehicles and a house!

VMARS: Vintage & Military Amateur Radio Society was established in 1999 to: Encourage the conservation, restoration and use of ‘classic’ electronic equipment, with a principal focus on wireless techniques, whether applied to communications, RADAR or other pulsed signalling systems-but not neglecting line communication, audio recording, mine detecting and so on. Encourage recording of electronics related history. Preserve the knowledge and skills needed for; The use of traditional modes of communications, such as analogue AM, analogue FM, and Morse Code by radio amateurs. The use of traditional types of component, such as valves, vibrators, leaded components.

Ha ha . Hi Tom and nice to hear from you. I got hold of this receiver 40 years ago...my first proper radio and have cherished it since. Full rebuild and careful reversible modifications. Have always enjoyed working on vintage tube tech...now have over 50 radios and transmitters...I'm a Ham so use the vintage gear as was intended. I see plenty of interest in vintage tech in the US too. I also have a couple of 1940 s vehicles too. Stay safe and keep bashing out the videos.

How do you know it's a number station and not a regular amateur? Because the frequency doesn't occur in regular amateur bandplans? It's neither in 40m nor 60m band. 6.76 MHz is below the 40m band lowest freq of 7.00 MHz. and above the highest freq 5.36 MHz of the 60m band. All the best, Rob
@vacuumfireradio2533 жыл бұрын
RobWhittlestone Hi Rob - not sure if that was a question ...as you appeared to have answered it yourself! As you say the transmission is outside the Amateur bands. I am a Radio Amateur. As I say it could be a training station (French militaire) or a genuine numbers station. My money is on the latter as the French Station is normally elsewhere....
@RobWhittlestone3 жыл бұрын
@@vacuumfireradio253 Haha! First I was irritated by your claim that it was a numbers station without a reason then did the research and found the reason! My father was G3JMW and ZC4MW so learnt a bit from him. All the best, Rob in Switzerland

Hi Tom - thanks for your interest...I posted this publicly as I was selling the receiver and wished to demonstrate it to a potential purchaser! The decrypt would be a incredibly difficult process. The recipient was very likely using a one time pad...virtually indecipherable...

@@vacuumfireradio253 I,m currently restoring a 730/4 myself. I have a problem in that T6, the main side-band audio filter is attenuating to a massive degree, far more than it should. Also allowing no real passband audio through. I can't really understand why, as it appears to be a simple L/C filter and can't deteriorate! Have youthis problem, please?
