By 1995-1996, Daytime Television had many issues oriented talk shows. Too many to name. "Ricky Lake" was doing well. The first version of "Mauri Povich," "Sally Jesse Raphael," "Geraldo," "Oprah," and many others that did not last.

Sadly, in March, 2024, Ron Weiner, Phil's Director for all of Chicago's run passed away. Ron was invited to go to New York, but "Phyllis," his late great wife said, "No" because she did not want to move to New York. LOL. During his time directing the show, Ron won three Emmy Awards, and Chicago's Prestigious Silver Circle Award. Ron was a teacher, advisor, mentor, and a dear friend. May he and Mr. Donahue rest in peace.

On September 13, 1996, "The Phil Donahue Show" ended its daytime run after 29 seasons and 6,715 episodes. Phil Donahue retired from daytime television to spend more time with his wife and Danny Thomas's daughter, Marlo Thomas. The show celebrated its finale with a party that included confetti cannons and pouring champagne on Donahue's head. Ricochet's 1995 debut single "What Do I Know" played in the background.👍

They must have redubbed the "New Year's Eve" theme because I never heard the song you are speaking of. 6,715 (predominantly) LIVE broadcasts. Many on location! SIX THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN HOURS! Epic!

In 1971, we took "Donahue" outside the studio, and host Phil Donahue began traveling to remote locations. In 1972, he visited Russia, Miami, Florida, Los Angeles, California, Atlanta, Georgia, Detroit, Michigan, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the Ohio State Penitentiary. On January 22, 1977, Marlo Thomas appeared on The Phil Donahue Show to promote her movie "Thieves." On January 13, 1979, Marlo Thomas appeared on The Phil Donahue Show to present a plaque in honor of his 2,000th episode. This was Marlo's second appearance on the show. On January 11, 1982, Marlo Thomas presented Phil Donahue with a plaque in honor of his 3,000th episode. This was Marlo's third appearance on the show. On July 13, 1985, The Phil Donahue Show celebrated its 4,000th episode. To commemorate the occasion, Marlo Thomas presented Phil Donahue with a plaque. This was Marlo's fourth appearance on the show. On January 16, 1987, Phil Donahue celebrated his 5,000th episode of The Phil Donahue Show and his 20th anniversary of Donahue. To commemorate the occasion, Marlo Thomas presented Donahue with a plaque in honor of his 5,000th episode. This was Marlo's fifth appearance on the show. On November 25, 1988, Marlo Thomas appeared on Donahue to promote her television special "Free to Be... a Family." This was Marlo's sixth appearance on the show. Phil chatted with Marlo and her children, showed clips from the special, and chatted with the audience. In 1992, Phil Donahue celebrated his silver 25th anniversary of his long-running daytime talk show. The show featured appearances by Oprah Winfrey, Sally Jessy Raphael, and Marlo Thomas. On August 6, 1992, Phil Donahue celebrated his 6,000th episode as the host of The Phil Donahue Show. This was a significant milestone for both Phil and the show.👍

The Phil Donahue Show premiered in 1967. Since then, it has produced over 6,000 guests. In 1975, we celebrated our 1,000th episode, then our 2,000th episode in 1979, the 3,000th episode in 1982, the 4,000th episode in 1985, our 5,000th episode in 1987, and our 6,000th episode in 1992. When Donahue premiered in 1967, Marlo Thomas was not there. Instead, the first guest Phil Donahue interviewed was atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair.👍

The Phil Donahue Show premiered as a local program on November 6, 1967. It was filmed at the studios of WLWD in Dayton, Ohio. Avco Broadcasting was the first company to produce the show from 1967 to 1970 (seasons 1-3). WLWD continued producing Donahue until 1974. In 1970, Donahue became a nationally syndicated program. Avco Program Sales took over production and produced the show from 1970 to 1976 (seasons 4-6). In 1974, Phil Donahue and his program moved to WGN in Chicago, Illinois. Two years later, in 1976, the show moved to WBBM and was renamed "Donahue." In 1976, Multimedia Entertainment took over production of The Phil Donahue Show. They continued producing the show until it ended on September 13, 1996 (seasons 7-29). In 1985, Phil Donahue and his program moved to New York City. They were based at WNBC in 30 Rockefeller Plaza's Studio 8-G.👍

The UK had Parkinson & America had Donahue…. I used to watch him religiously before I want to work on the night shift. Always intelligent, always insightful & always with a total gentleman at true heart. In 2024 he passed away & I’m sad to say we lost yet another courageous journalist who gave us much to think about in all those 6,000 shows. ❤God Bless you Phil Donahue & the family you left behind. & yes let’s mention Patricia McMillian - what a tour D force she was.

With the adult babies, some do get sexual pleasure out of it because I once knew a guy who was like that. He would wear diapers and sanitary pads. He would even 'get off' by these magazines that had grown women dressed up as babies in a crib. He was a creeper. The reason I know all of this is because he answered an ad (this was years ago) I placed as a trans-sexual. There are a lot of strange guys who are attracted to trans people. Thankfully I never met him, he only told me about his 'hobby' through mail correspondence.

I wish he would have spoke with Rev. Bob Harrington because he later lost his faith and became an alcoholic, adultery, etc. During his time as a non-believer he even spoke at one of Madalyn Murray O'Hair's atheist conventions, according to her right hand man, Frank Zindler, in his book 'Born Again Atheist.'

Here in Binghamton, Donahue was on for 18 years. It was on WBNG Ch 12 from April 1977 to early 1991 at 9am right before CBS game shows. Afterwards, it aired on WICZ Ch 40 for 4 1/2 years until the end of summer 1995. In Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Donahue was on WBRE Ch 28 for 25 years beginning in 1971. It aired at 9am right before NBC game shows, then moved to 5pm by the spring of 1988 right before Eyewitness News at 6:00, and the final season in 1995-96 aired at 10am.

Well, they didn't show the fetus after the abortion did they. The problem I have with abortions, is that in many countries they allow it up to 26 weeks and 6 days. The fetus looks like a child and t's moving when they discard it. In Canada a woman can walk in to a clinic for a 'later term abortion' no questions asked.

RIP to a trailblazer-Mr. Phil Donahue. I remember watching his final show. It felt like a passing of the torch from him to Oprah. When I was a kid, whenever that theme song came on, it was time for me to be quiet and let the adults watch Donahue and Oprah. My prayers are with Marlo and the rest of the family.
