Wonder if he ever realized that the reason so many names were now dropped was because after the battle of the labyrinth percy lamented the fact he didn't know the names of some of the demigods who died in battle despite kinda knowing them for years. Now he knows everybody's name

1:00:00 "Romans are supposed to help their friends," Frank says. Did he not learn about all the CIVIL WARS the Romans had? Or the First and Second Triumvirates? or, idk JULIUS CAESAR who was STABBED TO DEATH by his colleagues? Helping friends generally took a backseat to politics in Ancient Rome 1:15:00 The gods can have kids with mortals of the same sex. I mean, for example, Kayla, a daughter of ο Άπόλλων (Apollon) has a mortal father

While it's not the traditional magical curse one would normally think of, breaking oaths and promises is kind of a classic scenario for a curse, and I think the idea is that luke made that specific promise to annabeth, that he wouldn't betray her like everyone else, when he gave her that dagger. it's kind of a stretch, but I think it works.

Question that would probably actually be better for Horse, but a) I'm here and b) I need a comment for the algorithm: Is Netball big in America? It's at least as big as the Basketball it was derived from where I'm from, maybe even bigger. I feel like if anyone would know about it, you would. If you know what it is, what do you think of it.

We have indiana history here and its mostly about how state governments are set up and then how Indiana was a major stop for most freed and runaway slaves. My town does like to leave out that out town founder would then find those people and try and send them back to the south. A real POS also had a clause written into our courthouse where it was supposed to be demolished when the first colored family moved here. All of that was right around when the town was founded.

hi mike! I'm coming to the Columbus show in April but I'm only on your coverage of the lost hero (I finished the whole series of course) THALIA KILLS GROVER BOOK 5 JKJKJKJKJKJKJKJKJKJK. doubt you'll see this but anywho I couldn't wait to ask you this question. If all the PJO characters (Percy, Grover, Tyson, Jason, Piper, Annabeth, Leo, et cetera) grew up on the same block what suburban stereotypes would they have?

So what Hestia was saying to Percy regarding "The Power of Yielding" at least IMHO. It's more about "Yes you can fight way your way out of this situation, BUT will that actually solve the problem, OR will people think your nothing but a jerk who can't control your temper" One of Percy's biggest strengths is also his biggest weaknesses. LACK OF STRATEGY. His "Go with the Flow" attitude while in most cases it does help him. But it can also bite him especially if he doesn't think about his next step. Now by saying that. I'm not saying Percy is dumb, he's not. BUT he is almost 16 he's a teenager, and teenagers, especially ones with ADHD are terrible examples of IMPULSE CONTROL. Case in point: Look back at book 3 when he got in that fight with Thalia. It was his fault they lost capture the flag, and Thalia was right to call him out, and she did apologize for ACCIDENTALLY shocking him. Now Percy could've accepted the apology and walked away. But NOPE, he had to make the game go into extra innings and douse Thalia with freezing cold river water.

19:20-19:40 So I understand what Erica is saying to an extent. But that's the whole point of the entire story. Percy and Annabeth both had a mutual friend in Grover so it was easier for the two of them to bond. These three however it's the opposite, this story is about three misfits, who are strangers to each other and they are labeled as outcasts by the outside world being forced go on this adventure together.

I LOVE that you like this book SO much, because for some weird reason, the first time I read the books, the longest reading break I took was during Son of Neptune and weirdly enough on my second read-through (this time not in German, but in English, which by now I prefer xD also, that read-through started around the same time I discovered this podcast :D And now this is the podcast I'm waiting for the MOST every week xD) recently, the first and veeeery long (like... half a year maybe? 😅😅🤣 idk why xD) reading break I took after rushing through PJO in less than a week was AGAIN in Son of Neptune (specifically [without spoiling anything, because it's just one word that won't mean ANYTHING to Mike if he hasn't gotten there yet, but after that it's very obvious what scene I mean] at this part: Grains. That's vaguely specific enough 🤣) and I have NO IDEA why I always take the longest to read exactly THIS book, because it's a great book and I KNOW that, but for some weird reason, I always hesitate on this book. I genuinely do not understand why. The only guess I can take is that my autistic ass hates change and meeting new characters in a (for me) comfortable setting felt more acceptable than meeting new characters AND a new location (as incredibly happy as I was to see Percy and also Nico back), like that combination might have been too much change for me, I have no idea 😅🤣 I love Frank and Hazel and they have SUCH interesting backstorys and I can't wait to see all of the different connections between all of the characters to play out (old and new ones) and I'm really annoyed at myself that I somehow always stop at this book 😅🙃 But after I finally picked it back up, I raced from there until my next long reading break which for some freaking reason is towards the end of House of Hades, but probably only because I remember SOME of the stuff coming up (while I had forgotten almost all of MoA xD) and barely anything of the last one except some specific details and after that I'll finally reach new territory (even tho sadly some important stuff has been spoiled for me...) but that also terrifies me to not have that comfort blanket of knowing what happens anymore, i don't know, this is all very weird, my brain is weird 😅😅🤣🤣🤣 .....where in Tartarus was I planning to go with this comment..?? 😅🤦‍♀🤦‍♀🤣🤣🤣🤣

A thing that is interesting is that you assume a god must get in a heterosexual relationship to have a half blood, we have already learned that for example children of Athena are simply mind babies so why would that relationship for example need to be straight? Frank does point out that his godly parent apparently is a god and not a goddess here but it is still a thing to keep in mind :P
@newestolympian
@newestolympian 26 күн бұрын
I guess just because in the books, so far we've only seen heterosexual relationships, which is why that's my train of thought. Not trying to be heteronormative, just trying to follow the structure of the series. Even Annabeth being a mind baby had a straight relationship in her parentage. Hopefully this changes as the books go on!

Hi Mike, after listening to your podcast now for a few months thanks to you being a guest on Super Carlin Brothers and learning about this awesome podcast I am hooked. That being said hearing this political tangent I went to the comments to see what was said and your response. I am not pro one side or another but Pro choose the best of the choices given no politician will be a perfect fit and in the end we just live with our choice and hope others make the correct choice as well. Again thank you for doing this podcast as a 35 yr old dad rereading along with you and my daughter. Hope you have a great holiday with the family and remember with your little one if at the end of the day she is still looking at you as her #1 hero you are doing an amazing job.

Oh totally, I fully agree that no politician will be perfect and our current system drives us towards picking the better of the two options. Sad as it is, that's the way it is. I just think this election there was such an obvious worse choice and sadly that guy won.

I dont understand why, when you know you are missing information (education system failure), you dont look stuff up yourself. It makes a lot of sense why in december 1941 the american population whould want to fight the Japanese. Also, with the way you phrased it, its sound like you think the Nazi's were much worse than the Japanese, while they did pretty similar levels of war crimes and crimes against humanity. I love this podcast, but you usually sound better informed than you did here, and i think its something you could look into.
@newestolympian
@newestolympian Ай бұрын
I do look stuff up myself, this was just the first time I was ever faced with the question as to whether or not a Mexican person would/wouldn't be considered indigenous. The system is so bad that I sometimes don't know what I don't know. As for the Nazis vs Japanese thing, I won't claim to be a WWII expert by any means, but I feel like the general consensus is the Nazis were worse because of all they did with regards to the Holocaust? Happy to be corrected here, but I've never heard of any infamous Japanese concentration camps for example.

@@newestolympian this is a little complicated, as there is a long list of war crimes carried out by the Imperial Japanese Army/Navy (to the point that there are entire Wikipedia pages dedicated to them), but they include but are not limited to: human experimentation (carried out in facilities disguised as "lumber mills"), biological warfare, forced labor, s*xual sl*very, cannibalism, the annexation/occupation of several territories (mostly in Asia), just to name a few.
