I’ve been on a search for the perfect edc for work for about 3yrs. I’ve been through so many bags always looking for the perfect balance of functionality with nice looking aesthetics. The Sympl Commuter is as close to perfect as I’ve found. Had it since launch and haven’t tried or rotated back to any of my daily drivers. Love- Tech caddie: provides enough quick access to mostly use items. Self standing: qol for a bag to stand in its own Shoulder straps: straps are fantastic and a lot of well thought out bags fall short. Materials: perfect blend of weather resistance and durability. Interior could use an upgrade but for the price point it’s still a deal. The fact that this bag can walk into any boardroom and still tame the outdoors is a game changer. Like- Separate laptop access: not a necessity for me but definitely a plus Side handle: most under rated feature on any edc bag. Grab handles: near perfect grab handles. Plush and durable. Kind of a sleeper: this is definitely a self righteous ploy but I like not running with the herd. Ehhh - The branding: the commuter has the least amount of advertising out of all of their backpacks but even less would be better. Just picked up the weekender v2 and it’s definitely toned down as well now.

I recently got the Aer Ultra Travel Pack 3 for my extended travels starting in late October, and it has been fantastic! After six weeks in Europe and now two weeks in Thailand, I can confidently say it’s amazing. The bag’s sleek, stylish look and durable sailcloth fabric have been great for travel, especially in the rain. I paired it with the Aer Go Pack 2, which I roll up for everyday carry-super handy! I also got the travel belt buckle, which has been very useful, though it’s unfortunate it costs extra. While the front compartment can feel tight when the bag is fully packed, I’ve optimized my packing to make it work. I sometimes worried the bag wouldn’t fit in the overhead bins on flights, but it’s always fit perfectly so far. I do wish the D-ring wasn’t over the water bottle pocket, but overall, the bag feels premium and comfortable for long walks. The laptop sleeve is excellent and keeps my 14” MacBook Pro secure. As a longtime fan of Aer, I’m thrilled to finally travel long-term with one of their bags-it’s a game-changer!

I completely agree about the need to cut off a pound of weight especially when many larger capacity bags come in lighter weights. The overabundance of pockets and compression straps makes the pack feel over designed. I oftentimes forget about some of the pockets. I own the X-Pac small version and it'd be the perfect bag if they removed some things. I hate the water bottle pocket but it holds my tripod well. I've used the bag on many air and road trips plus office work. It does so many things well that it's hard to give up. I used to own the Tech Pack and loved it, but it's so tight you can't even store a regular food to-go box in it.

I tried using the X-Pac version as my personal item for work + laptop + compact photo gear along with a rollaboard bag on several business trips, domestic and international, over the last 18 months. It's so overbuilt that I find I can't put it underseat on aircraft without taking all the footspace. The thing is simply heavy for its capacity. And while you'd think that would mean robust, somehow I acquired a pretty large slice on the front panel, perhaps from bad karma when I snuck it into the overhead bin.
