These are coping very well in Sw Victoria too although not nearly the amount of flowers. A great innovation..... a built up bed facing north with shelter is needed or in large pots works well too.

Beautiful aloes! We just did an episode on a Aloe arborescens 'Variegata' . It is an amazing plant. In addition, we have 30+ grevilleas that thrive next to our 20+ aloes in our yard in southern California. I bet grevillea and aloes do well down under!

Well we shall see exactly how well these magnificent garden plants cope with rain. I've introduced some of these cultivars to Hong Kong. What's worrying me is that many of the cloned tissue culture forms appear to be extremely densely packed with side shoots as very small plants. This dense cluster form tends to be very susceptible to wet, pests. This makes them very difficult to grow without cover as young retail plants as you cant remove the side shoots until a main stem develops, if the cultivar even has one. I suspect that this is the result of tissue culture as the plants do not grow like this as offsets or vegetatively propagated plants from the original. The originals may or may not produce stem shoots much later which are then easily removed if appropriate. So I would advise trying to secure vegetive offsets rather than tissue cultured plants, from the original or adult forms if you can so you start with just three max or even a single rosette for planting out rather. Interestingly Aloe vera seems to thrive in the tropics, some hybrids using this might be a good idea for wet subtropical areas like Northern Australia.
