It's 2024 writing. RIP Kalli

Anyone know what the instrument that starts getting plucked around the 2:15 mark is? Sounds like a banjo.

RIP Dame Maggie. What an incredible body of work you left behind; entertaining millions, for over 60 years.
What a fantastic, genuinely lovely performance! But wow, the wow in the opening of the 3rd movement ... Not the quartet's fault, obviously; their unison is perfect. But ... I've heard wow on 33s, but not before on 78s! That was painful! It doesn't occur on the second big unison later in the movement ... maybe it was a tape problem? Or did tape not yet exist -- all recordings were cut directly to discs? But what a stunning performance! The benefit of a long and close relationship with the composer! Or was it the other way around? I hope these recordings are commercially available! Thank you for posting them! You're one of the best channels on KZbin!

Stewart's baritone is heard to much greater advantage in the high-lying tessitura of the Siegfried Wotan that it was in the lower tessitura of the Walkure Wotan.

Brilliant! I've attended - and sometimes was required to perform in - many recitals just like this during my 50 years as a professional musician / singer.

Thank you for a great upload! "Gut'n Abend, Meister! Noch so fleissig?" is at 1:45:29, not 1:52:29. "Jerum! Jerum!" is at 2:06:47, not 1:06:47.

19:39 The score shows eighth notes here, but it seems like he's playing them dotted / in swing. Anyone else notice this? I feel like it sounds better that way.

She was my Grandmothers Cousin. In the early 50's , when I was 6 . We went to to her house in Belair for dinner. I remember thinking she must live in a hotel . Jeanette must have been horified with my visit because I recall running through her prize rose garden . I was never invited back.

Sure it's not the best recording of the planets, but it's most definitely the most important recording of 20th-century classical music.

What a superb conductor was Martinon! If only he had the marketing hype that Solti did.

I am always amazed when I come across a rogue performance of some piece outside of Kleiber's small repertoire. I think I will probably faint if a Bruckner or Mahler performance ever appears, or Tchaikovsky. Strauss is not so out of this world surprising since Kleiber conducted Rosenkavalier a lot.

Pretty fun performance. Not sure why everyone seems to have a stick shoved up their ass whenever they hear something like this, there are a thousand other versions to listen to if you want something more conventional. Stylistic diversity between performers is something to be celebrated, not shamed!

Somehow I had missed this one way back when. I have not laughed this hard in a very long time. And it is why I stopped trying to study "music" composition in college and also why I do not attend faculty, and most student, recitals at the local very large university.
