My father bought me a D40 in 2008 as a birthday present.. I almost never used it, because I had those super compact cameras. I sold it years later. However later I regreted it. Anyways: Now I have 3, all with the original box, in very good condition. I am very happy that I purchased the D40 back..

Hi and happy holidays, great video on the Nikon D40. I have one and the D70 as well. A thing I thought I would share with you I never knew it could do. I have some N/Ai lenses, and on my Nikon N90s film camera, it has documented in the manual it can electronically rangefind the focus with such lenses. Although the D40 and D70 do not show direction arrows to achieve the focus, with no electrical coupling to the body, when you hit focus, you get the "green dot" and I have no idea how it knows ?? This opens up a whole new world of possibilities so my Nikkor and Tokina and Tamron SP BBAR CF lenses deliver stunning results on these older sensors. Thanks again and if you have such glass, give it a try.

@@Mr.Nobody_etc. thank you for the tip! I do believe the D40 still retains the same focusing technology as older film models like the F4 and F5 hence, the green "focus confirmation" dot. There's a myriad of Ai/S lens choices out there but I'm really happy with the glass I already have. I live in a humid country so maintaining lenses can be quite a challenge!

One of the best cameras i used. I use a Nikon 28mm 2.8D with it. Like all cameras, it has a focus confirmation dot so manual focusing will be a breeze. It has the fastest flashsync speed ever made. 😊

What SD Card works for M23m
@oneshotoneclick22 күн бұрын
You can use small capacity cards not more than 8gb. Any higher will cause failures to read the card. I'm using a mere, 2gb card which came with the camera.

Another advantage of using the Power Ratio setting on a flash or strobe is that you can maintain the same flash-to-subject distance without having to physically move the light closer or away from the subject. This is especially helpful when shooting in confined spaces or if there is nowhere else to position your light source.

One good reason to keep the autofocus "beep" turned on is that it tells you when the camera thinks it has found focus (and is not hunting for it any more). This is especially handy in rainy conditions or in low light. Both of these situations can make it tricky to judge focus through the viewfinder, and to be honest my eyesight isn't great any more. I think it's a bit harsh to say that people that use the beep are stupid (6:33). Thanks for the content. 👍
@oneshotoneclickАй бұрын
@@CasualInventor my apologies for being harsh. I'm also at the age when focusing gets to ba challenging especially in low or diminished light. Older cameras had a bright green LED indicator in the viewfinder like in the old Nikon F4s 35mm camera. That was easy to see and it was better than an audible confirmation. I wonder why manufacturers stopped doing this. Thank you and I appreciate the interaction.:)

For a professional shot, do not use auto but choose the largest aperture possible, which requires a faster shutter speed. As a result, the depth of field is short, and the subject will stand out against a blurred background (3D effect). Otherwise almost everything will be in focus and look like amateur photography.
@oneshotoneclick2 ай бұрын
@@TheBinaryWolf true, but not every photo requires a shallow depth of field like landscapes. Thank you for the comment, appreciate it! 😊

Did you say you haven’t used film in 20 years? Maybe you should try using film again 😂 I to started in the film days, I worked as a full time photographer for more than 25 years, completing thousands of assignments, using film and then digital cameras, I now do fine art photography and I choose to use film for my artistic expression, it may not make sense to you but for a lot of artists film is still a viable choice. I work only in Black and White and I develop my film, it’s not that expensive, I like the craft, the process, the look and yes scanned film looks like film when printed lol there’s nothing wrong using what ever you like, whether it’s film or digital, it’s all photography.

The simple reason is that I live in a third world country and film labs are loooong gone and no one really cares about film anymore. I would love to resurrect my 4x5s and an old Agfa Isolette if I could but...

@@seeingmonochrome I never lost my love for film. It was an entirely otherworldly experience --even the smell of freshly loaded Fuji Velvia was heavenly! The ASMR of loading a 120 roll, advancing to take the first shot on a Nikon FM2 or even an F4 is beyond compare!

What makes no sense - is your video. Most who use film - use it after digital and they do understand why they need and love film. Film is about Dynamic Range (up to 23 stops by measurment of DxO), natural response, colors, different frames - like 24x36, 24x65, 6x6, 6x7, 6x17cm and amazing cameras with simple controls. It just not for you.

It's a good camera, it can produce beautiful photos and videos in the right hands. It's a great camera to learn on and is an affordable way to jump into the new Canon RF lens ecosystem. However for $200 more the R50 is a better camera since it uses a newer sensor and the same processor that is in the much more expensive R3 so you get far better auto focus and tracking performance among other things. The R100 is good but it's hard to ignore the R50 considering it's price and sizable improvements and additional features.
@oneshotoneclick Жыл бұрын
For me, I spent the extra $200 on 2-spare batteries; a small shotgun mic; and an H1n sound recorder. I would rather have the capability to go out and shoot/practice rather than let the camera do the work for me. I've been in the game almost half a decade and I doubt that technology can keep up with what I've already been through during the days of analog/film photography. Besides, I don't see the logic or the rationale of spending more money on better sensors when today's photography relies less on the camera and more on post-processing in which, computers make better photos than cameras. So, why spend more for something you won't need?
@03chrisv Жыл бұрын
@absabando1496 I think it just depends on what you shoot. If you're just taking photos of stationary objects or scenary then the R100 is perfectly fine. However for me the much better and faster auto focusing and tracking is worth the extra price and makes it better suited for wildlife, sports, race cars, planes, weddings, etc. The R100 is good to learn the fundamentals if you're a beginner or to hone your skills if you're a professional because it forces you to not rely on extra features, but I wouldn't use it as my primary camera. Sometimes when the situation calls you need an articulating screen for recording short video clips, or sometimes you need fast auto focusing or tracking.
@oneshotoneclick Жыл бұрын
@@03chrisv you wouldn't believe what we could do with a Nikon FM2 back in the day and that was an all mechanical camera! I have no aversions towards technology but I think photography skill have regressed since the late 1990s when cameras became more sophisticated. I'm just one of those old guys who could read a "distance scale" on the flash and "eyeballs" exposure readings even with digital. It was a skill we had to learn back then and it lives with old folks to this day. As a teacher, I pick out the best learning tools for students to learn on and I think the R100 or an old generation EOS-1D would make a good platform. I hate it when influencers bash a tool that can be perfect for beginners on a budget. In the 3 decades that digital has been around, even I who grew up on film has evolved but I would say, for the better and NOT for the dumber. Thank you for your insights.
