10:11 A lot of what you're expressing in that monologue is an influence of the American culture. Even though Canada is not as hardcore as the USA (it's a more European-like country in many regards, but still very American), I think you'll appreciate how in Europe the mentality is more humanistic and less ultra-competitive and high-achiever oriented (even the concepts of "high achiever" itself, like "valedictorians", Ivy Leagues, etc. are not a thing in Europe). Also very interesting you had these thoughts in the middle of winter, also coinciding with a significant date like your 20th. I was writing this comment initially to ask you how were you dealing with the long winters in Maastricht alone far from home and family etc. as a Canadian but I think the video explains a lot already. Kudos on your style by the way, very nice channel and stylistic videos!

A really interesting thought!! I think it also varies between countries and families as my friends across europe/north america vary alot on this spectrum, but in general I do agree that I'm sure the north american culture has a big impact on instilling the drive to achieve. Unfortunately I don't have much of a template, my notes vary alot depending on the needs of the course and if we have learning goals given, etc.. but I can try to work on putting something together! Hi Ariel! I’ve been following your journey since you arrived at Maastricht. I still can remember your little studio and the very first days of settling down in this new country. I discovered your channel mainly because I was moving to Maastricht for an internship myself, and thanks to your footage Maastricht was not unfamiliar place to me when I arrived. Sometimes I wish we had crossed, to be honest I wouldn’t have known what to tell you (strange things from the Internet I guess). Now I am back in Barcelona continuing to peruse my career. Hey Ariel! I'm a 2nd year psych student in Canada, and I've been watching (and loving) your videos for a while now...our playlist is pretty similar and coincidentally, I'm Ethiopian so if you were at all curious, the title of that song was a man telling a woman, " i hope no cruelty/harm touches you" which is a sweet way of saying, "I hope life treats you well", I think that's cute🤭🤗
