I know people compare this show to Band of Brothers but this felt more like the Pacific given how godawful the Eastern Front was for both sides (my Grandma who was from Latvia survived the war on the eastern front and fled wity her family in 1944 because she and her family were on the list to be deported to Siberia)

Not necessarily a good movie in general, but a good 80s movie, definitely unconventional. But, yes, though it does look kinda good in some parts, others clearly didn't age well, and the Glaive should've been used more. Still, compared to lots of today's gobbledygook, more enjoyable, if you're into old movies. Funny sidenote, at the very beginning, this was supposed to be D&D, the 1st script was named "Dungeons & Dragons: Journey to Krull", or something similar. But for whatever reason, they didn't get the green light to proceed, so they improvised by rewriting the thing, making it something else. Close enough if you ask me, it could be D&D...

I dont know why KZbin put this in my algorithm . 1) I immediately hated this off rip. But Im sure some like to just listen on youtube. 2) Your Eminem style intro was as white as it comes. Creative?🤷🏾‍♂ 3) The cover art is like, the least effort put into the obvious comic influence. 4) The three different comic face designs SHUD BE THE SAME STYLE. Sealab, Xmen, and homeless Tony Stark (probably form some weak ass RPG game) Looks mid. 5) The voices are recorded in a professional manner and you are not using RockBand Mics. 6) 3 White guys reviewing TBL, is low hanging fruit. I can see if it was a fun dissection or cynical perspective. But this was just needless dicksucking. 7) Need to spend a lil more time establishing who tf YOU are so Ik why I shud give a fuck why you're speaking. bcuz the ontent was pointless. So maybe the person speaking matters?🤷🏾‍♂ 8) 6:05 - 6:11 took the words right outta my mouth to describe this podcast episode. 9) I made it about 7mins in, that was only so I could type this. 10) The link to check out your material is helpful, but each upload shud be using hashtags so that ....whoever...this is for, can find more easily. Gud luck.

the Eternals costume is reminiscent of ancient Egyptian clothing i would say probably a nod to them viewing themselves as gods. most of the old people in the vortex were the parents of the younger Eternals, who grew up in the world before the fall so their costumes could be representative of that

I love this movie! Thank you for covering it! I actually love the comparison thematically to the expanse. i totally get that. As humanity grows and divides every side thinks they are operating for the greater good/best outcome but ignorance and fear creates these justifications for war and ultimately leads to mutually assured destruction. And even after said destruction, out of the ashes the cycle begins again. (All of this has happened before and it will all happen again- for the Battlestar Galactica fans ;) ) I wanted to add to the conversation about the giant iron robots of the apocalypse. I always thought of them as being another visual way of hammering home the idea that mankind is responsible for its own destruction. That the ultimate bringer of doom weapon looks humanoid, not like a big gun or bomb or something but upright and walking on two legs. This was the first Miyazaki movie I ever saw when I was a young teen (definitely first saw the hacked up early version on VHS) and its in my top three favorite Miyazaki (along with Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky) I loved introducing these films to my kids too. When my oldest fell in love with this one, I bought the first four manga for him with the caveat that he had to let me read them next. I dont think he got past vol one but years later they DID some how migrate into my comic book collection but I never read them. I am going to go dust them off right now and put them on the top of the "must read" stack. Right next to Expanse vol 3.

The thing I find the most interesting about the show is that Its about the expansion of the human species from Earth, to Mars, and to the Belt, and the Outer Planets, etc and how one culture evolves throughout this expansion and growth. Dividing into different factions and the hostilities and xenophobia if you will that develops. Without trying to spoil anything, the next few seasons expand on that theme even more.

Totally! I haven't come across too much solar system style Space Opera. The Mars trilogy and maybe Moon is a Harsh Mistress fit the bill, but I'm digging the restrictions of conventional travel and not a Star Wars style hyperspace galaxy expansion. It's funny, because even with the rings open I still think of it as a Sol System show... -C (lab)

I do not care how many times its done, sci-fi noir detective IS MY JAM. PERIOD. Miller is what locked me into the show. Also I usually am a book first then show person, (because I unashamedly draw immense perverse pleasure in picking apart the differences) but lately I just can't keep up. I find myself more frequently reading a book after viewing the corresponding show. And in this case I do find the books (only on number 3 so far) a little dry. After listening to this I think that I have become too accustomed to the level of interpersonal drama the tv feeds us. DAMN I know i would have LOVED the books so much more if I had read them first.

I like how they handled Holden in the show. He started out more as a complacent borderline slacker and you get the sense the Naomi definitely knows this in their first meeting on the show. I think the whole point of starting at that place is so he has a journey to earn the crew's respect and it took several episodes before things eased up, particularly between Amos and Holden. Amos told Kenzo, "He's not the Captain." As you mentioned, in the book he was already XO and was pretty well respected. I definitely think the show made it more interesting in that regard. I also prefer the way they handled Bobbie's arc, particularly her defection in the show. In the book Avasarala basically asked her to come work for her and Bobbie said sure, no problem, and there wasn't. Of course the circumstances were different , but I thought the show made it more interesting.
@inthisepisodeeverybodydies8774
@inthisepisodeeverybodydies8774 4 жыл бұрын
That's a super interesting point about show Holden vs book Holden. It does make for a more interesting development of the crew relationship. For me, I prefer a Bobbie that is conflicted but doesn't defect. I may be misremembering but I though that the Martian Government encouraged her to work with Avarsarala in the books. I understand that having established characters help weave the story together (Bobbie in season 4 for example) is useful. But I just really loved her squeaky clean military discipline and ford things like the defection as taking away from the parts of her character that I enjoyed most. All that said, what I enjoy isn't the be-all-end-all so each their own. I definitely appreciate your point of view! p.s. thanks for checking out our Podcast!
